I just bought a bottle of black peper seeds which are supposed to be used for cooking. I wonder if I can just grow the black peper plant directly from those seeds?
Thanks.
Can I grow black peper directly from the seeds?-
No,I'm sure you couldn't.They have been processed."All true peppercorns are produced from the berries of Piper nigrum, a tropical flowering vine native to South India and now grown in other humid, tropical environments. A woody evergreen that grows to 11 yards or more in length, the pepper vine uses aerial roots to cling to, and climb, trees. When it is cultivated, the vine is terraced, similar to grape vines"

From this website http://www.thenibble.com/zine/draft1/varietal-peppercorns.asp .There are many websites that tell you how to grow Piper nigrum.

In general, most spices have been irradiated - I think anything imported from India is irradiated by US law - but seeds from organic sources are sometimes still viable.
