Pres Bush, with two different blooms, solid and streaked, on the
same vine yesterday.

I finally got the right color of the lavender Dai that grew out of the packet that has mainly white Dai flowers.

Here is the white Dai flower.

Here is a different Dai flower with yellow-green leaves, a nice color combination I think.

Here's the last Dai flower I am growing this year. They are so cool to see on the trellis.

Joseph I really like the lavender dye!! http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=5492094

I do too, Ronnie. Did you get any like this one when you grew them?

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

No Joseph not even close... I will grow that one again next year, that's for sure!

Here's Shi-kanoko in all its speckled glory. Thanks, Ron for encouraging me to isolate these vines that were all mixed up on the trellis. I spent enjoyable hours unwrapping each vine and then fastening them to their own stake. Got a great farmer's tan too LOL.

Joseph - Your various bloom colors of Dai is to die for! :-) Love the leaf colors too! What a neat cultivar of MG!!!

Gautier, MS

Jackie, love your bloom.

Joseph, your MG's are awesome.

(Judith) Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

I have a better picture of this NOID MG. Can somebody identify it?

Thank you Helena.

Judith, I don't know the id but it's a beautiful m glory with the small touch of
pink/lavender.

Sterling, VA(Zone 7a)

Morning glories that were planted in previous years and came up again in 2008 - they reseed profusely!!

Thanks, Becky and Jackie!

Nice flowers there revclaus and snug as a bug rug!

I like the color of this Chaen no Tsuki JMG. It makes very large flowers.

Judith your flower here http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=5494700

looks a bit like one I grew, purchased as 'Aomuraski'

Snug_As_Bug_Rug - Ipomoea purpureas are notorious for producing lots of seeds that survive even cold climates and then go on to produce volunteers. Yours looks a little like Grandpa Otts. http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/9558/ They do make nice coverage on fences, arbors, trellises, and wherever they find a home! :-)

Jackie and Ronnie - What pretty white blooms. Love that pink throat!

Joesph - Your Chaen no Tsuki is really pretty! Love that white edging, too!

I've spent the day doing yard work and pruning some of our large trees, caulking around windows and doors, and putting yard stuff away. We are expecting a hurricane or two soon. Hurricane Hannah may be banging on my backdoor by this weekend. Hopefully she won't intensify too much. Though ... she jumped from 45 mph to over 80 mph in one day. :-( So it's looking a bit threatening to Florida. And for some reason we've gotten many, many hurricanes that have made landfall here or very near us over the years. This year looks like it is definitely going to be a very active season. Much to dismay of those of us in hurricane alley ... (sigh)

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Stay safe Becky!! ♥

Pretoria, South Africa

Becky, thinking about you and the hurricanes. Hope they pass without too much damage....

Netcong, NJ(Zone 5b)

The bloom here is from the flaked strain
http://pics.davesgarden.com/pics/luvsgrtdanes_1220316350_416.jpg
and when the color spots in the corolla limb disappear completely it then llooks what Emma has been calling her 'jamie lynn'

Thanks Ronnie and Elsa! Drat! Where's El Nino or La Nina when ya need them?! LOL!

(Judith) Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

Emma, do you think mine looks like Jamie Lynn??

Kittrell, NC(Zone 7b)

Becky, I know what you mean!! I have been so busy watching Gustav, and then see that the projected path for Hanna is right over my house! We should be seeing her on Sat. The problem is I live inland, but we have seen more hurricanes in the last ten years than our coast has.

MEAG848~ HOWDY from las vegas!~ what is that gorgeous white trimmed MG???

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Melanie, a beautiful bloom.

My Purple Blizzard almost. lol I loved the color on
this one.

Netcong, NJ(Zone 5b)

revclaus - I think the bloom that you posted here
http://pics.davesgarden.com/pics/revclaus_1220293505_660.jpg
is likely to be a very dilute version of the flaked strain, but perhaps too dilute to fit within the usual boundaries of what Emma has been calling "Jamie Lynn"...

My Candy Pink vine is producing a larger flower, so I like it better now.

That one is pretty Jackie. How big is the flower?

Netcong, NJ(Zone 5b)

Does anyone know of an inexpensive online source for pieces of bamboo about 4 foot in length and about the diameter of what Jackie is using in the photo here
http://pics.davesgarden.com/pics/patootie_1220381240_177.jpg

I know where to get 24" but anything longer seems to be hard to locate or too expensive...

I've even looked on ebay...nothing relatively thin, long and good priced...

Anybody know of any good sources...???

???

I got 5 foot sections at the local nursery for less than 5 dollars a package (don't remember how many units per package tho, sorry)

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Thanks Ronnie. The Candy Pink is a 3 inch flower now, compared to a 2 inch previously. The Purple Blizzard almost is a 5 inch flower
I know this isn't a great pic and the flower isn't gorgeous, but it looks more like
my Purple Blizzard from last yr. So I'm happy to see it. With the crazy weather,we've had this year, I'm lucky to have any blooms.
Ron, my bamboo sticks came from Lowes, 25 (3) feet for 3.99, about 20 (4) feet for same price. I also bought some 5 footers for same price but only 8 in pkg.
Also, the thickness varies within each pk. Some pieces are from the top of the
bamboo pole so nice and slim. Others are from the bottom half of the cane, so stockier and
almost too heavy for my pots. I have used the tiny diameter dowels, 2/8 or 3/8
of an inch, available from all the Lowes, H'D's etc. They don't last as long. But they were dirt cheap

Gautier, MS

Ron, have you checked Lowes? I bought 2 bags of 25 each 4ft stakes for less than $10.00 about 2 weeks ago. I don't know of an online source.

Very pretty blooms everybody!

Home Depot and Lowes both sell the Bamboo here. But ... I have gone the more expensive route and bought the 6' steel poles coated with plastic because the rainfall is so great here, that it was rotting the Bamboo and bringing down my vines! :-S

Online - Type in Bamboo Stakes and you'll get all kinds of listings for them!

Nice bloom photos posted today! Is the season winding down for most of you?

That was my Fuji Musume from Emma. Another one that I will plant again next year.
Emma, another thing about the grow bags, you can lay them on their sides so they (fingers crossed) won't get to much damaged during the storm coming. Everyone please stay safe!

Thumbnail by meag848

Meag - I have my fingers crossed that a cold front will blow across and down the the Eastern Coastal US and blow those hurricanes and storms far, far away from us. We hear Friday for us with Hanna and then Ike and Josephine right behind her! I feel like pins lined up in a bowling alley waiting to see which storm will either hit a spare or a strike on us. Ugh.

How do you hang your grow bags? Do you have another photo you can show me of one? BTW - Your Fuji Musume is quite lovely!

Jackie - Your Ishdatatone is wonderful. I just planted a 3rd seed of the same vine. I don't know if that vine just takes longer to germinate or if I'm doing something wrong, but I am hoping the final seed will make it into a vine! I really like yours! Your bright pink Youjiro is pretty, too!

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Melanie, the Fuji Musume is a wonderful color.
Thanks Helena and Becky. Becky, I hope you get your Isdatatone. It's
different from any other glory I've ever grown.

Here's a few that survived the heavy spring rains we had....
