I was going to suggest a Day Lily that had dropped all the flowers but the one we see, but that might be misleading, I seem to think I have seen this somewhere else but cant think right now, hope someone else can come in and help you out, good luck. WeeNel.

I think it's a ginger of some sort, maybe a Curcuma. Here's one to look at--your color is a bit different but at least you can look at the flower shape and the leaves and see if you think it's a match. http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/57166/

Your right as ever Ecrane, now I know where I seen this before, it came in a lovely flower arrangement I got as a gift, too tropical for our shores so they must have been imported, you cleaver girl. thank, this has been running through my head trying to remember how I recognised this flower stem with the little cup shaped things under the flower. best wishes, WeeNel.

thanks for the help with the naming of my plant. I seem to always resue the dying plants from the store and then the squirrels play with my name tags!!!! thanks again
