calla lily seeds

Otsego, MI(Zone 5b)

I have calla lilies. They are done blooming. They have these really big "seed pods" inside the flowers. When do I harvest these? The "seeds" are still green.

I have not actually harvested calla lily seeds -- just wish my calla lilies would bloom. However, the rule for collecting most seeds is that they need to turn dark (usually brown or black) on the plant -- still green is too early.

Hope this helps,

i wish mine bloomed this year. I planted them late, thats probably why they didn't bloom but i got a bumper crop of foilage. Wait until the seed pods are dark brown and they split open, try to get them before the split all the open. From there you can either put them in a paper bag , which absorbs moisture, and put them in the veggie bin of the frig or sow them where you want them to be. There's all sorts of fancy stuff you can do but i find this way the simpliest.

Does anyone know if it would be ok to brake the pod of & bring it in until it turns dark?

I tie a knee high stocking around my green seed pods so that, if I miss getting out there when they are ripe, the seeds will be captured in the stocking.
