I have a Redbud tree in my backyard and it only gets part sun. It does bloom but not near as well as it would with full sun. It leans toward the sun too. I plan to move it. I don't know what makes them split.

Redbuds are understory trees, so especially if your climate is hot in the summer they do like a bit of dappled shade rather than being out in the full blazing sun all day, but if you have too much shade it may not bloom as well.

redbuds are native to TN. You see them along the sides of roads and in the cliffs. They can take full sun no problem. So, redbuds are not a shade plant. A little shade, they would work but not full.

redbuds rock, they are how I know that spring is here.

i have become especially interested in the weeping form. A client of mine bought it through the mail, i don't remember where from, but wow, it's grown alot and now stands 5 ft and weeps to the ground with huge! green leaves, very cool!!!!!!!!!!

grassman1,

For detailed info, maybe this thread on a comment on the article will help:

plantfreak78 seemed to know a TON about a vast majority of different kinds of redbuds. Just click on plantfreak78's name in the thread to send a d-mail. Or, reply to the thread and maybe plantfreak78 will see it and respond.

Thanks,

A lot of redbuds are grown from seeds. All the names you mentioned are basically the same. American and eastern redbuds are the same thing. Forest Pansy is a cultivar or variety of them. They have purpleish leaves instead of green. There are many kinds of redbuds. I personally have never had problems transplanting this tree. As long as you have plenty of root, water etc.. then you should no problem. There are lots of trees that don't transplant easily but not this one.Oh, certain types are grafted but I'm not sure which.
