Help. Brown tips and spots. I'm new to this stuff.

Hello All. Can anyone tell me the name of this plant, and what is wrong with it. It started out getting brown tips,
now it's getting brown spots on other parts of the leaves. I've had the plant for about 4 years, and have repotted
it without problems. The brown tips started about 2 months ago. The spots a few weeks ago. This is the only plant I have. Thank you so much! Candy.

oh, I forgot. The whole in the top right leaf is from the vaccuum. Poor baby.

Your plant is an Anthurium and it looks very healthy to me! Brown tips could be from lack of enough humidity. You can try spritzing or misting it daily with a spray bottle of water to see if that helps. Or sit it on a tray of pebbles with a bit of water in the tray. Brown spots could be a fungus of some sort. How wet is the soil? I would let it get almost dry before watering.

plantladylin. thanks so much. I've looked on-line for pictures of the plant for months and haven't found it. I'm moving to Melbourne FL in two weeks. It's humid here in CT, but I hear a little more in Melbourne. I can look up the care now. Greatly appreciated!!

What Lin said. The sun could be the problem, too. Has it always been in that spot?

Candy, You are very welcome! That really is a lovely Anthurium you have there. I have tried growing them and have not had luck for very long. They might look great for a year and then begin to go downhill fast. I still love them though ... such pretty plants.

Good luck with your move to Central Florida! Melbourne is a great area. You will find the climate in FL to be very different than in CT. The heat and humidity may get pretty intense here, but we don't have the snow and ice! ^_^

kwanjin. the plant has been in this spot for just 10 days or so. I'm in the midst of a move. Prior to that, it had always been in the same spot, that is probably getting more sun now than it had in the past, due to the changes in season here. I checked the site, and for this one, says sun and some shade. But doesn't say how much of each. What do you recommend? thank you.

I would suggest what I suggest for all houseplants. Morning sun and afternoon shade.

I have two, both with red blooms. I always put them out on my covered porch every summer where they get bright, indirect light. They love it out there. I wish they would grow that good inside! Mine are both big and beautiful but I've never exposed them to any sun at all.

I had not even noticed the location of your plant. The sun reflecting from the glass in that window could very well be burning the foliage on your plant. I don't think they would survive in direct sun, but prefer filtered light/bright shade.
