Brought me a piece of mail that was accidentally left in her mailbox.
They are retired and very wealthy,as if that really matters to me,poor as dirt, anyways, she said she would like to plant something in her yard, but it doesn't get enough sun, there house faces the same direction as mine!,I said, are you referring to my yard blocking the sunshine, they don't even have a tree one in there yard.
She said not exactly, but you do have a unusual yard!!!
Now,Hmmm,does,this look unusual too you????
My neighbor!
You can move next door to me anyday.
Sounds like the neighbor who planted her tomatoes in the shade of our trees, then wanted us to cut down the trees. Didn't happen.
Looks beautiful to me.
Thanks! I'd be happy too!
Exactly!!!
You know what they, beauty is in the eye of the beholder!!!!
I love the garden.
Lovely jungle!!
Its beautiful tropicman - wish I could grow exotics :-(( I think your neighbour is jealous.
:-)) Rosie
Tropicman,
Many years ago I worked in your area for several months. I don't remember seeing anything like your yard up there, so I'm inclined to say it's unusual eye-candy for KS. It's also a thing of beauty and I'm jealous too! I can't get my yard to look that good and I live in FL. Do you attract lots of butterflies and birds?
Yolie
Your yard looks beautiful, like a rainforest! How do you manage to maintain all those tropical plants in Wichita? Maybe that's what she meant when she said your garden was "unusual"; she's not used to seeing plants like that in your part of the country. We can always give her the benefit of the doubt. ;-)
Thanks everyone!!
Here's how I do it,
It's all in the soil, every year I cut everything back, and it turns into compost right where it was growing, and if I can find some cow,or horse manure that has been composting a year or more at add some of that too!
So it has become a fast draining soil,so I must water almost every nite, depending what the weather was like that day, windy or sunny,I usually have to water, and I have a well,so the plants get plenty of iron from the water.
Then about every 2 weeks I fertilize with peters 20-20-20,until June, then I switched to
Schultz bloom Buster 10-60-10 fertilizer,so that plants will start to flower more often.
Yolie,I have a following now,I know of at least a half dozen people who do tropical gardening in Town, and they equal my gardens or if not better them,I say the student has become the teacher!!!LOL
I teach rain forest gardening 101
gosh Tm ...you forgot to tell everyone how you dig almost everything up and place them in your various greenhouses for the winter and then lug them out again for the warmer months ...all that wonderful soil plus your hard work and tender touch is what makes you a legend in your lifetime! ...oh and by the way ...you have a following from way down under as well ^_^ as our Winter is just gone I guess you are starting to get your greenhouses ready now ...
Don't work too hard now mate.
chrissy
Hi Chrissy
Thanks,and how you been?
Yes winter is approaching,a cool 55* now, about 20* cooler than it has been since about May.
Have already started filling up the greenhouse.a little at a time, just with potted plants, need to start digging up plants,as I feel winter might come a little early this year!
The weather man is only predicating one or maybe 2 days next week in the low 80's,so fall is definitely here.
Take care down under, and a happy spring to you!
Don
Beautiful gardens you have there Tropicman. Do you get time to just sit under all those beautiful trees and have a glass of lemonade (or whatever)?
Occasionally,
Like today,I'm busy getting 100+ seeds in potting trays, syragus coronato palm seeds, and
getting my propagation greenhouse organized,I probably have 300 seeds waiting to pop,and 200 seedlings in there already and more to bring in!
O.K., so no lemonade today, LOL! But you're sure a busy guy!
In the evenings I water and clean 7 parrots cages and play with them, playtime outside there cage.
There like little kids, need a little lovin everyday!!!!
I think your yard is magnificent. Do you take vitamins for energy? LOL I need to know. LOL I think maybe your neighbor IS jealous. But in her defense your yard makes her "no tree" yard look bad. Have you ever been driving by a house with no kind of landscaping and think "If I lived there I would put this here and that there?" You just know that the people that live in that house don't care much for plants. How can a person live without trees? I think those people are missing out.
Beautiful, beautiful yard!!
Thanks
Lots of Orange Juice!!!!
The yard is dead brown now, they killed it off to reseed, some of my bermuda has run into there fescue, and oh well like oil and water the two just don't mix!
Yes I have done that, must have missed my calling as a landscape architect!
