i just moved to a studio in chicago and i was wondering if i could grow any veggie or herb plants on the windowsill. there is no airconditioning and plenty of very slightly shaded light. i think tomatoes would grow, but i don't know what else. the other thing is my cat. as beuatiful as he is, he decimated my minuture rose bush in my last appt. i think perhaps he's mellowed out since then. so nothing poisonous, though veggies would be fine. right? pretty much any plant (veggie or not) i could keep alive would give me pride.
please help

windowsill plants
Tomatoes may grow vegetatively, but they won't bear fruit without full outdoor sun. They also get very lanky, and would stretch for light indoors. Herbs are your best bet. But maybe no catnip.
As dp72 says, tomatoes or most any veggie would not work in those conditions, although a small herb garden would. There are many, many plants you could grow that would not hurt your cat and hopefully your cat would not hurt them. You can grow many nonpoisonous houseplants or cacti and succulents as long as you have decent light or miniature citrus.
