My tricyrtis (toad lily) plant's leaves are streaked with what looks like rust. Any idea what that might be and what causes it?
What is the rusty stuff on my tricyrtis?
Can you post a picture? If it looks like rust I suspect it's probably rust but a picture would be needed to tell for sure. The best way to deal with rust is to buy things that are resistant to it, otherwise with susceptible plants there's always a chance that plants are going to get it (I'm not sure if rust is so prevalent with Tricyrtis that they've spent the time to breed rust resistant cultivars or not). The good news is it's unsightly but not generally fatal so you shouldn't lose the plant because of it. It's something that's easier to prevent than it is to treat after the fact, so the best thing to do now is clean up any rusty leaves this fall and then next year you can do some preventative spraying with a fungicide that's labeled for rust and that may help keep it from coming back next year.
