Daily Pics Volume 133

Marlton, NJ

Thats Great tiger! You must have been thrilled!

Tiller, OR(Zone 8a)

pelle, the best part was the kids getting to see it. The eagles are here year round now, but the area is so heavily wooded we don't get to see them often.

I think I've spotted a nest, so it will be on my list for visits next spring, for sure!

Linthicum Heights, MD(Zone 7a)

Often one wishes that they had been a tad closer when photographing a subject out in the field. And, nothing is much more exhilarating then to see an Osprey or an Eagle first identify their prey and then with a speed of light dive into the water, capturing this unsuspecting prey. I come across a few of these occasions but seldom achieve the desired results. That's what keeps me going back. Over the weekend, I witnessed one such occasion, but still a little too far way, hand-holding a 500mm lens.

Here are three quick shots. The first shot (not shown) was too blurred as the Osprey was just entering the water surface at top speed.

Finally, the Osprey comes into view ................

Within seconds the Osprey is seen leaving the water with his/her capture, a relatively small fish.

I have not seen or heard an Indigo Bunting fot for 3 days now. So, I think they have left. Still a few catbirds and robins around but near as many at all. It is not nearly as noisy when I go on my walks now in the morning.

This is from last friday morning...Song Sparrow in the brush

Nice pics GP and nanny!

I just found a Blue Jay in my yard that can't fly. This is the second flightless blue jay for me in 6 weeks. The last one wouldn't let us get within 60 feet of him. This one let me get a little closer so while he was under the trumpetvine on the fence I threw crumbled suet, peanuts and sunflower chips to him. Its ashame but I imagine he'll have the same fate as the last one. He also keeps opening and closing his mouth. He is able to get on the bird bath too.

I found this little guy just abit ago in the road. I went and got gloves and got him...but he died before we got back to the house.

Presumably hit by a car

Rockport, TX(Zone 9a)

I found a young bluejay in the yard one time that could cry out but couldn't move at all. My dogs were out there, so I picked him up. I put him in a potted plant on the fence, so he was off the ground. Not only did he live, but he followed me around the yard all summer. I could tell it was him because I'd been watching the parents for a while and they had three young ones. One of the three was very scrawny and messy looking all the time. The one I saved was the scrawny one. So, you never know. He might live and become your little bird friend!

Nice shots nanny! I especially like #3.

They are a great subject since their much braver than many other birds.

Today I'm having major problems with 2 Coopers Hawks (like 1 wasn't bad enough, lol).
