i am thinking about buying this rose. the rose also has fragrance. does it smell good? if you have it, how do you like it?
what do you think about "Rose Our Lady of Guadalupe"?
I bought two of them this spring. One was a container from a nursery, and one was shipped bare root. They are both doing pretty well. The do seem fairly disease resistant. Here in GA, I don't think anything is truly resistant! One thing I've noticed on my two is that the stems are a bit floppy. I can't say that I'm ecstatic about them, but they're okay. I'd say it's too early to say for sure how much I like them. Hopefully they will sturdier and bigger next spring when I do my own pruning regimen. I'll be interested to see what others say. Unfortunately I don't have a pic to post from earlier in the season. Right now, their blooming has dwindled.
Oh, and it does have a fragrance, but I'd say it's pretty light. Not spicy or fruity, but just flowery. Also, the blooms on mine seem small, not much bigger than 2". I was expecting them to be a little larger. You might try posting this question on the Roses forum for more responses.

I love my 'Our Lady of Guadelupe'. I've grown it in two different yards and it's always been the last one to get black spot or powdery mildew. It's very short and compact which is nice. It has very little fragrance but it does really well as a cut flower in bud vases so I grow it for that.
I planted one is 2005. It didn't survive the following winter (with protection). So I replaced it in 2006. It survived its first winter but not the second (again, with protection). Unfortunately I had to shovel prune it this past spring. It was a nice little rose, though -- and a gorgeous true pink. It was also a blackspot magnet in my garden. It didn't grow very large and had thin canes. I attribute my failure mainly to location and excessively wet winters. In your warmer zones it should do very well.
Edited to say: Youngman, please read the Garden Watchdog before deciding whether or not to order it from Parks.
