help ideas please

I need help, I want to take out the evergreen bushes and do something different in front of that window... want something with some color and cottage style look....the front of the house faces east. thanks

You would need to check in Plant Files for your zone but some of my favorites are ...
Azalea, Dianthus. Sedum Autumn Joy, Golden Sedge (a grass), Catmint and Spiderwort. I hope this helps. I always love to see people remove the green for flowers. Good luck. Smokey

you need something tall and thin like sky pencil hoolies for the front of the porch then work out. Is the front sun, shade or both? Get rid of those bushes in front they are too big and takes your eye away form the house and all you see is big.

Just a few suggestions:

--add a flowerbox under both windows--a flower box would look great once those bushes are gone! Then I would put cleomes in on either side of the large window.
--put a pot of morning glories under the pole that supports the overhang--morning glories would be perfect here, especially since it's eastern facing.
--put in a planting bed on the outer side of the walkway--start with easy annuals and then as time goes by you could start adding some perennials. I'd try zinnias to start out with, impatiens might be a good choice if it doesn't get too hot or dry.
--pots pots pots of flowers for the porch! Go with something easy to maintain, like million bells and impatiens to start out with.

Just some thoughts. Everything is always trial and error! Oh--roses are also supposed to be good for east-facing, so maybe you could find some small compact rose shrubs to put under that window .

The BUSHES are GONE!!! that was our Sunday's afternoon project... I have planted a PG Hydenga tree next to the porch and 3 compact rhododenrons under the window to fill the space next to the foundtion and curved the bed out to the end of the house around the corner ...filled the bed with some flowers...I think I am planning on window boxes under the other 2 windows in the spring.. the shutters should be here on the 4th...I want to ripe out the other bushes on the other side next... and the idea of running flowers on the other side of the side walk was what I was also thinking...starting at the driveway and making it curve and tie into the bed I just made... it would give the impression of a curved sidewalk from a distance! we are thinking of replacing the iron pole, with a fiberglass white pillar, to make it more modern, but wondering if square would be better?

I love ripping things out, don't ya feel better after doing it? You know, metal is in how about painting it (spray paint) with a fun vibrant color to wow, the front porch. Also, try some different size and shape pots in front. Great for annual in all seasons. Like what was said trial and error we learn more from our mistakes then our accomplishments. Take it one section at a time so you don't overwhelm yourself. Have fun ripping!!!!!!!!!
