Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Well, they're probably a yankee transplant too... LOL

We love ya anyway... ((((((( huggs ))))))

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

heck if I know do they eat brown and rice in NO?

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

we call them brown beans also here in okie land. red beans are red aka kidney beans and pintos are brown beans. When we say beans fried taters and cornbread it is brown beans aka pintos. YUMMY

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

yea with a side of mylanta.

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

ah but your outside of Texas so that means your a yank too LOL

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Hmmm... I might have to stand to be corrected here... but my mom always called Pinto beans "red beans"... we never ate kidney beans...

Ok, I'll shut up now... sorry.

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

ahhhhhhhhhhhh I am NOT an yankee. he he he, kidney beans are the red beans, some people will make chili with the kidney/red beans as they dont make Fairy farts as bad.

Goldthwaite, TX(Zone 8a)

LOL In Texas we just call them "beans." Everybody knows you mean pinto beans. Anything else you gotta give it more name.

Buffalo, TX(Zone 8b)

Well we usually have baked beans with bbq here in TX.

Now we have pintos, cornbread and rice anytime with anything or stand alone if you throw some ham hocks or sausage in the beans. (Just be warned it doesn't make for good sleeping company later in the evening.)

Is someone planning on cooking hotdogs? If not, I'll switch to something else to bring.

Charlene

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

mmmmm, Your making me hungry. I will take the bbq, tater salad, and beans, no matter what color they are!
Linda Kay

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Charlene.. I was bringing hot dogs.. but we can share IF we are still doing them... BUT I ain't cooking them..LOL.. If we're doing BBQ I can bring a side or something...I am flexible... BTW... I called you back this am.. sorry about last night...LONG story there!

NO... girlies... pintos are beans.. but we say pintos.. other beans /peas have theur names too...now greens?? ... the tops are called "greens".. and on turnips the roots are roots... IN TN the roots and tops are called greens..LOL

Gilmer, TX

When I've ordered red beans and rice in cajun counry I've gotten pintos. And I agree with whoever said if you just say 'beans', you're talking pintos. Any other bean has to be named. LOL

Emory, TX(Zone 8a)

LOL about naming the beans... That is totally true though! If you say a pot of bean no one is gonna think they are green beans or limas...LOL

Goldthwaite, TX(Zone 8a)

And here on the edge of West Texas, if you say "red beans," you are talking about pintos with a whole lotta chili powder.

Emory, TX(Zone 8a)

Lanny serves Pintos with his BBQ! LOL Hey I called him a few minutes ago and got a price... He said that we can get enough chopped beef for 40 people (if they are making sandwiches with it) for about $80. That is for one sandwich per person. That would work out to about $2 a sandwich right? Now I don't know if people will eat more than one and also he said that we could need more or less depending on how many of the 40 people are men or children... As of now I think we have six going in on BBQ and if we split it equally it would be about $13.25 each unless my math is wrong. Now if more go in on it it would be even less. Say if 8 people went in that would be $10 each. If 10 went in that would be $8 and I would think making a dish for 40 people would cost something like that... Now if there are some who don't like or want BBQ, if we knew that ahead we could buy less... What do ya'll think?

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

I'm thinking that we wait till the week before, get a final head count on who wants bbq .. and split the batch for 40 people... then we bring a container and split the left overs... ok?

There will be hot dogs and lots of other stuff for those who didn't get in on it.

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

would they be already made bbq sammy's I am sure the guys and teens would eat 2 each and even some of us gals, I have been known to. I wish I lived right there, I could smoke a brisket and make a fine okie bbq sammy. I make my own sauce.

Goldthwaite, TX(Zone 8a)

How many pounds of meat was he figuring for 40 people? Brisket used to be a relatively cheap cut of beef, but it has gone up a lot too. (Wish we could sell our calves for anything close to what the beef costs in the store!)

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

My friend Regine will be coming again, and she will either bring a side or chip in on the BBQ guys, so add her to the list...

Emory, TX(Zone 8a)

That was for 8 lbs and includes the tax. He said it would be under $80 so I said $80 to be safe. I actually just figured the exact cost of price per LB + tax for 8 lbs and it should come to $73.68 I think... so if 8 people go in it should be $9.21 each... 10 people would be $7.37...

Rusk, TX(Zone 8a)

I'll cook the hotdogs if no-one else wants to. But, I think we need to get started a lot sooner than we did last time! Put us down to go in on the B-B-Q. We'll also bring weiners, buns, onions, and Kathie will make a batch of cookies for desert.

Emory, TX(Zone 8a)

Ok, So far I have the following wanting to go in on the BBQ

Mibus2
Darkmoondreamer
Regine (Darkmoondreamer's friend)
Bjwilson
Taters55
EasTexYardboy
luvs2garden2000

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Put Planolinda down on that list too... she'll be riding in with me.

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

alrighty then now who is steppin up to run the the food stuff???? LOL

meaning someone in charge of that area at the RU

Emory, TX(Zone 8a)

ok, I added Planolinda and we now have 10. I bet we will have others before it is all said and done. Now someone let me know if we need more than the 8 lbs since some said they will eat more than one sandwich... I know I won't and we will have some other stuff there also, but I sure would hate for someone that wanted some not to get any!

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Put me in on the BBQ..please

Emory, TX(Zone 8a)

Beck, I added you...

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

I'll only eat one... and if I'm still hungry later, I'll have a hot dog.

Emory, TX(Zone 8a)

Maybe most will do that... I just don't know and I don't want anyone to be disappointed with not enough BBQ. I may just add a couple of lbs on my own... I should anyway since I don't plan to bring another side dish, unless we need potato salad or coleslaw...

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

I'm going to bring a relish tray with my homemade sweet/hot pickles and onion also. Phyllis, I'm nixing the boxed chicken I was going to bring I think unless you feel like it's needed.

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

What I meant was, if we go pretty much barbeque?

Emory, TX(Zone 8a)

Since you are going in in the BBQ, I wouldn't htink you'd need to bring the chicken too... especially if you are bringing a relish tray also...

Phyllis, what do you say...?

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

whatever y'all decide is fine

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

Ok I get to stay for the whole week I will be staying at my aunts house. She lives about 15 miles from Tyler, already forgot the name of the town. Her and maybe her DH will be coming with me. Let me know if I need to bring anything.

Emory, TX(Zone 8a)

I saw on an earlier post that you would go in on the BBQ, so if you do that and maybe bring a couple of the non food items to cover the guests that should work I think... Is that ok with you?

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

yes I will go in on the bbq also. Yes looks good to me.
