would you grow black locust trees?

Damascus, MD(Zone 7a)

I grew this locust trees from seed in 2005. It is about 9' - 10' tall now, but has not started to bloom yet. I only found out recently that this tree spreads like crazy.

Can any one share some experience with me about this tree? I live in a planned community. Although the yard is over an acre, there isn't room for trees to grow wild... How difficult is it to control the spreading? The tree is now only about 5' away from a brick walkway. Should I cut it down :-( Can I move it?

Thank you.

I have no experience at all with this type of tree, to be honest, before I plant any tree that I am unsure of, I do some research about the size, the soil requirements and care before I buy it or plant it. 5 feet from a brick wall or any other type of structure is too close for any tree, the roots can affect the structure, drains or other services once it gets going up and out, the best way to measure the root area of a tree is to find out the final height AND the width the top will spread to and that give a general size the root area will also spread out to need to support the branches.
I would think the size your tree is right now, can be dug out and moved with care, like a large root-ball of soil etc, make a really large hole to place the tree into and have it as far away from any structure as you can, remember most trees take many years to reach some maturity and sometimes best admired from a distance to really appreciate their beauty both shape and colour etc. If it is a tree that sends out sucker growth, then you would have to be vigilant and keep cutting these down to under ground level,
I hope someone else can tell you more about you type of tree as this is obviously reached an important stage in it's growth and your concerns for safety. good luck. WeeNel.
