Grandmaggie, those little Chickadees are so cute. Before I started watching the bird forum, I'd heard of Chickadees from dialogue in the movies, like "Alright, my little chickadee, if that's how yer gunna play the game ........." but had no idea that Chickadees were such sweet birds.
Methodical, as with the Chickadees, I;d never heard of a Grackle before DG. They are incredibly gorgeous birds.
onewish, the variety of birds you get at your place is amazing. I'm always blown away by the colour of the Cardinals whenever they're posted.
evie_beevie, the hummingbird shots are delightful. So tiny. Love that black head sticking out of the birdbath.
nanny, just how many varieties of birds do you have?
Resin, I think it's "Sprinter" - Spring making its presence known but still a bit of winter hanging about. I wish it would hang around much longer. The one draw back with spring, is that summer follows (yecch).
Iris, I don't know the Kookaburra song. Sing us a line or two.
Here's a shot of a Pelican gliding by this afternoon.
Daily Pics Volume 132
That's so funny Margaret, because I always say that the one drawback of Fall is that Winter follows!
Onewish.. love your birdbath pics!!
How many birds do I have??? I have Actually ID'd 75 birds in the last year, since I took up birding. I walk a half mile circle several times a day and see most along my wlks or in my yard. A few are from down by the lake or driving along the road in & out of where I live. Some that I saw last year, I have not seen this year. Such as the Red-headed Woodpecker.
Here is a link to my list of birds. http://www.yardbirder.net/List.php?Name=nannysgarden&List=YardList&order=alpha
Great pics everyone!
onewish, Those Black-capped Chickadees are friendly aren't they. I've sometimes been able to get within three feet of them.
Margaret, That Pelican is so handsome!
kniph, Those cygnets are adorable!
All Right for Kookaburra--luckily not sung.
Kookaburra sits on the old gumtree--Merry merry king of the bush is he--Laugh kookaburra, laugh kookaburra, gay your life must be.
Kookaburra sits on the old gum tree--Eating all the gumdrops he can see--Stop Kookaburra, stop kookaburra, please save some for me.
beautiful shots Kniphofia & Adelbertcat
I am not sure how many birds we get... sorry I haven't really gotten into it that much... that is quite a list Nann
Thanks kniphofia. The Pelican was a good subject. I love the Muscovy's. We had a pet Muscovy who died at the beginning of this year. She was an exquisite creature, except when she was broody, when she turned into mad 'n' mean maniacal duck. She was best friends with our pet Black Orpington chicken.
Wowee nanny, that's an impressive list.
Iris, thanks for the song. I've never heard it. You have a lovely voice.
adelbertcat, nice pics. Are the fires under control yet?
Nice pics adel and GP!!
eevie_beevie will be starting the new thread soon.
My list doesn't begin to compare to some...but for a beginner and just the birds that I see around here...I was pretty astounded! Just shows what may be in your own backyard so to speak!
I did make an error on my written list I have 79 birds, as it includes the ones from last year but not seen this year.
I had a very brief visitor this morning...and if I had not just happen to have the camera in my hand I would have missed it completely! I only got 1 really bad shot and it was gone...poof!
A juvie Red-bellied Woodpecker!!
MargaretK.............Some of the fire are under control but we had a lightning storm a few days ago that started some more. The newest one is four miles West of us. They seem to be jumping on this one because it's threatening houses.
Sorry about the new fires. Hope that is the last one. Today the downy woodpecker was working on a dead branch instead of the house. I could just see its tailfeathers, but it was the correct size.
