Purple Tie Dye from last summer

Thumbnail by patootie

I finally got a flower on that variable flowering plant that looks like the Akatsuki no Mai seed packet! LOL

Joseph, I hope my "Akatsuki no Mai's" flower will resemble yours. Really striking...

Thanks, Elsa! This type flower seems to be a rare event for my vine...you get portions of the pink blizzard coloration but I have not often seen it on the entire flower.

I never knew there was so many different MG's until I joined this site and I am in awe of the beauty of your flowers, makes my Heavenly Blue look so plain LOL... I took this shot this morning to show off, the color has become more intense the more it blooms. I cant wait til next year to try many more colors...

It is interesting to compare the 2 blue ray JMGs I am growing. This one has a wider area of blue in the rays and around the tube compared to the other one, which I will show in the next photo.

Thumbnail by

Here's the other one. Both seem to have the same hue of "background" blue between the rays.

Here is one making an adornment in the tube.

Christine - LOL! When I first joined this forum last year, I was soooo thrilled to grow Star of Yelta! LOL! Your Heavenly Blue is so much prettier and probably blooms more! And then my options expanded - due to this forum - with so many choices! I was like you ... I never knew there were so many different cultivars of MGs! Be careful ... it can become an addiction to obtain seeds for and grow them ALL! LOL! I've been doing my best ever since to grow just about all of them that I can get my hands on! :-)

Jackie - I have a couple of seeds left for Purple Tie-dye and was thinking about growing them out again. I may grow those in a pot. I really do love the colors and patterns of each bloom of tie-dye. Thanks for posting the photo to remind me just how much I love it!

Joseph - Very nice bloom from the Akatsuki no Mai! Really attractive! And that is really cool that your 2 blue rays are quite different. That's neat! Nice blooms - both of them!

Ronnie - Love the color of your Heavenly Blue. Is it a tri-color MG? Do they produce a lot of seeds?

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Yes Becky it is tricolor, I never get seeds but a nursery near me sells them every year, she closes in June so I pick them up for around .50 so worth it!!

Spectacular Joseph...here's hoping your blue ray is very fertile!! LOL

Netcong, NJ(Zone 5b)

Joseph - Yes,both of those Blue Rays are very cool...
both on my xmas list...please...

The lighter one has a nicer flowing curvature to the corolla limb...

The "Chaen no Tsuki" also looks kewl especially when the inner tassels pick up the light nil outer edge...natural color coordination...

TTY,...

Ron

Thanks, Ronnie, Becky and Ron! All the vines seem to be fertile but am having concerns about the white Dai JMG I got from you, Ronnie. It is flowering very much but so far no seed pods. I am hopeful I will get a few of each of the white Dai and the Blue Dai.

Here is my contribution for the morning, Shiborizaki dark seed form. These vines are a miracle of life, indeed.

Great side shot, Joseph! I've had the same problem with pollen production on some of my vines in the past, too. Frustrating! Hopefully they will produce some seeds soon! :-)

Beautiful blooms Joseph & Ronnie. They sure are special.

Holly - Pretty bloom! Is that Gray Lady or possibly Gray Fog? Nice whatever it is!

Thanks, Helena!

Here is another Blue Silk!

Shikanoko in all its speckled glory!

Asuka non-picotee, really big flowers on this vine.

Thumbnail by

And here is a picotee Asuka, which came out of the same foil packet.

Thumbnail by

Lastly, one I am enjoying very much; the color contrast is nice between flower and yellow-green leaf.

Joseph - Gorgeous flowers! That Asuka Picotee is marvelous! What a beaut! And all the others are so lovely as well. I can't wait to get blooms on my Blue Silk vine! :-)

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

WoW Joseph I really like the Asuka Picotee and I forgot how lovely blue silk really is!!!

Thanks, Ronnie and Becky! I also find myself staring at the Blue Silk flowers when they are freshly opened in the morning.

Becky, I have my new thread up with pictures of my Gazebo. I only have a few small MG growing on it this year but expect to plant more next year.

I just love the look of the leaves against the curtains with the different shapes and patterns.

Here are a couple more Blue Silks for everyone.

This one had such a nice blue band on the corolla.

Thumbnail by

This Blue Silk flower had a smaller band of blue - I like this variant.

Thumbnail by

Akatsuki no Hikari, big flowers and the vine is starting to make a lot of them.

Thumbnail by

Asagiri is one of my faves this year.

Thumbnail by

Akatsuki no Mai made a small flag in the tube of this flower.

Joseph,
I don't have words to describe your Blue Silk. I have a soft spot for blue flowers.... Asuka Picotee is also very special.

Elsa, I know what you mean. I find myself touching the flowers to ensure I am not dreaming! Thanks!
