I'm with Joan and Ecrane. The most recent posts are all
that are of interest to me so a choice would be appreciated.
Could our favorite forums list be alphabetical please?
If I click on a "watched thread" with a new post, read it, and then return to my home page, that post still has that forum popped on on my "favorite forums" list (yes, even if I've refreshed the page) until I go to the forum again by clicking on the link from the favorites list.
So for me, it's more annoying than helpful to have recent posts rearranging my forums list. I suppose it would work better if I went straight to the forums and not to the "watched thread" links first.
I would definitely like a choice of how to view the forum list!
How about alphabetical, and the ones with a new post be in red or something like that. Most of my favorites are pretty active so they are always moving up and down. I would much rather they be in one spot either alphabetically or choice with some kind of highlight showing there is new activity.
There's already a red "YES!" in the "new?" column to the left of the forum name. :-)
What about the threads within the forum? Currently they all rotate by activity along with the forum on the home page. If making the forum stationary on the home page would also cause the threads within that forum to remain stationary and not bumped up with activity, would you still want it?
I'm just thinking this through, and I have no idea if the above scenario would be the case or not, but there is a possibility that we can't have the forum stationary on the home page, but the threads within that forum *bumpable*.
I don't see why those two features would be related. I'm sure Dave would have mentioned by now if there were a technical problem like that with alphabetizing the favorites list.
I think it's just a question of the best use of Dave's time... IF he thinks enough people would appreciate the option, then he has to program it into the homepage display as well as the "preferences" menu.
I certainly hope he's considering it! :-)
I hope so too. I'm just a hopeless case when it comes to order, LOL ... I like things alphabetized. But, I do understand about changing and trying to "fix" something that ain't broke. It sure would be great if it were an option so that the ones of us who prefer it that way could utilize it.
I LOVE the Plant Files database and spend a lot of time looking at plants there but it always drives me crazy when I'm looking for a certain plant in a genus and they aren't in ABC order. There are more than 1,700 African Violet's and you have to scroll through so many to find the particular one you are looking for because they are not in alphabetical. I have gotten so I just google to try to find information for a certain plant.
plantladylin, I have a tip that makes searching for a plant in PlantFiles much easier and faster. If you use this search tool, http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/adv_search.php?Search=Click+here+to+search+for+plants all you need to put in is Saintpaulia in the genus field and the cultivar you are looking for in the cultivar field. In this instance, I searched for the African Violet 'Festive Holiday' http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/adv_search.php?searcher[common]=&searcher[family]=&searcher[genus]=Saintpaulia&searcher[species]=&searcher[cultivar]=Festive+Holiday&searcher[hybridizer]=&searcher[grex]=&search_prefs[blank_cultivar]=&search_prefs[sort_by]=rating&images_prefs=both&Search=Search
Here's another tip. There are certain plants that have enough entries to warrant an alphabetical listing. African Violets is one of them: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/ If you click on African Violets, you can then choose which letter of the alphabet you want to search cultivars.
Hope this helps and saves you some searching time.
Joan
Joan, Thanks. I am real lazy. I usually do click on Guides and Information, then Plant Files, then Search for Plants, then type in the Genus name of the one I'm looking for.
Is there any way I could have a link to this screen: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/adv_search.php?Search=Click+here+to+search+for+plants on my home page?
I would just have to do the one click instead of going through so many steps? .... see, I told you I'm lazy! ^_^
