Help decide on " DG Friendship Garden " Signage

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

OOOOpppps!

This is NOT the BIG Thread---and this is NOT part #57!
This is your Signage Post....Mea Culpa again....:o(

I still think all the Hyperlinks to the "Best and Worst and What did I Learn" would be a valuable thing...ALL together in the same Post.
HEY! I have another great idea!!!! My brain just NEVER rests!

Start a new Post--ONLY for the #1 to #57 Posts. That way, you can update it all the time by adding the latest Post's Hyperlink.n Sort of--for Posterity!

Genius! I tell you! That is what I am!!!!....a real "brainchild"!
Well...someone has to pat me on the back--even if it is MYSELF!

"Humbly"---Gita....ahem.....caugh...caugh...

Victoria Harbour, ON

You have me so laughing Gita..don't make me more than what I am, I just love you all and enjoy having fun..you help me fill my sometimes lonely days...

It isn't difficult Gita to say what the 1st post was...

http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/716643/

I had just joined Daves Garden shortly before, thought it was the best thing since sliced bread..had experienced some difficult times to say the least, some days didn't know if I'd make it...then, I found a thread, I was so pleased that I could post along with them, posted same as I do now, about the little things in life, coming home to home cooked meals, having what I called earthly angels drop in and do things for me or bring me things, about the wonderful neighbors, great friends and family and the bomb fell, some preferred to think the worse, to think that I lived in a make believe fantasy that no such goodness existed..lots of pro's and con's I'll tell you so after being called a liar many/many times I started my own thread, those who thought such kindness existed joined me, and the rest his history, nothing but kindness shown, all willing to help each other out, no arguing, sisterhood at its best...

So you see Gita, didn't have to spend all day trying to locate first thread...just might do as you suggested, will try and figure that one out tomorrow..

Debbie you are more than welcome, find Georgian Bay and you'll be but block away from me...lol..better still, head that car of your toward Canada, am sure you are but 4 hrs drive from me if I recall..looked when I was travelling to Chicago a few months ago to see if I could drop and and give you a hug...

Gita, you are indeed a sweetie...where have you been, we've missed you on the thread, many have waved but you must have been dozing and not noticed...

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

Just found this thread, Betty. Lost the other one. Must have moved to a new page. I've got to go find it. I love your shed, the name reminds me of Jaye's sweet spirit, Gita's key idea would be cute on a wreath like Linda Kay mentioned. I'm going on memory, so forgive me if I miss-represented someone's idea. I agree that the door needs a painted wreath. Maybe the keys could hang on it like from a swag?
What plants could I send you for your bed, Betty?
You amaze and inspire me and so many more. You're a blessing and an Earth Angel!
Deborah

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Ah, Betty!!!

I am on here daily---sometimes 3x a day--just reading and keeping up. Honest!!!
When I have some flower pictures, and information, to share.....I will post.

That is enough for me! Gita

Hi Betty!!

Oh my gosh, just look at the progress of friendship garden.
Truley beautiful work of art and Love!

Nice to see your milage post turning out so wonderful, How delightful found my name!! Thank you.

LOL, got to agree though, the doors need some kind of decoration.

Smile and a wink!
keep up your excellent work, it so much fun to watch your creativity.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Wow, I just looked at yahoo maps, to see how far I am from Betty. 1905.37 miles. that is a long way!
Linda Kay

Victoria Harbour, ON

Judy you just want to give me more work..keep me out of mischief right...lol...

Linda Kay, try 'hours it takes to fly to Betty's' actually I will google the map and see if perhaps when I did Texas and I mean did Texas from the east coast down into Mexico and then up through the centre and back down on the west side...lots of driving me and my girlfriend Barb, both our DH's wanted to stay home fishing and marking snowmobile trails...alas, DH passed on just weeks of our returning home, so really difficult at times to remember all the wonderful sites..did go to Galveston,Padre Islands, Dallas, Fort Worth and many more places..sure did love the east coast....as for eating, the best place I have ever eaten in though was a restaurant that they put a slab of beef (steak I believe) on newspaper pring and wax paper and you ate everything with your fingers..remember there was a line up a mile long, but well worth it...somewhere in the middle part of Texas..don't know, could be a chain perhaps, was large enough to be one...

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, that sounds like it was one nice ride, long for sure. I bet you were glad when you got back home? Don't know the restaurant you stopped at, but it sure sounds good!

If you can only plant one seed, make it the seed of friendship. It is a perrenial and it blossoms year round.

Obviously the people here knew that!

(Zone 1)

Oh, Zany ... that has to be my favorite by far! I don't think any can top it! Perfect ... and yes so true of the folks here in this garden!

I've got to write that one down!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Now that would have been the sign for over the shed...if it's ok may I make another, am sure there is always room in the garden for one more sign...

(Zone 1)

Oh, I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels there's always room for one more sign in the garden!

Betty: Your garden shed is Perfect! I think that sign over the door and a welcome wreath would just be icing on the cake!

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

Of course you can have more than one sign! Maybe tuck one into a flowerbed or back by the bench so that you come upon it while resting. That idea was inspired by you threads so I am delighted you like it.

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

Love that quote Zany.

One of my favs is "A garden is a friend you can visit anytime"

Hmmmm keep it up girls and I'll have to have a sign garden..lol...

I do thank you for helping me make this friendship garden a fun project..with so much involvement it almost feels as though you are here guiding me as to where to put each piece... for that thanks...

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Zanny,

I loved that saying too! Copied it down already.

Where did that come from?

Betty--YES!!! That sign HAS TO go in your "Friendship Garden" somewhere......

I KNOW---somewhere in all my "organizes clutter" there is a catalog from long ago with all kinds of sayings in signs. Have no idea where it is.....Gotta go digging!

Gita

(Zone 1)

Gita,

Someone on the NE Gardening Forum started a thread a week or so ago asking for folks to post their favorite garden poetry, sayings, garden signs: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/889888/

Maybe you can add some of yours there too when you find your catalog.

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

**Grin** Gita, that one was from the "muse" part of my brain and was a direct result of reading through this wonderful thread of uplifting joy and friendships here on DG. I may not post often these days but I enjoy reading all of your posts and watching groups of strangers connect and friendships form. I start feeling like I know you and how truly unique and special each one here is. Maybe I should have Dave change my name to Happy Lurker!

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Well--well--Zanny-----You just have a wonderful "muse" brain.....That was such a beautiful thought when you put those few words together....

With your permission--may I pass it on, or use it, sometimes? It really does have huge substance and a wonderful sentiment!

Actually, before this Post goes to La-La land, I will go back and c/p some of the sayings I like the most in a special collection......

I also need to dig up the Post I started long ago for people to share Poems to/about their Gardens. I did---I did------Was not nearly as many responses to it as here.
It was a fun Post--as I kept encouraging people to write short "ditties"..as I did the same--to show them how easy it was.
Let me go see under the Posts I have started to see if I can find it. Will post a Hyperlink if I am successful...

Gita, copy, use, abuse, borrow or steal... Once I throw it out there it is available to any who use or ignore as they please. I do admit that it tickles me when someone likes it though!

Over the years there have been hundreds of poems and ditties posted on DG by a great variety of members, some of whom are still active and others who have vanished.. It is fun to go back and search them out at times. I have been trying to tag them as "poem" when I run into them but there still a bunch I have not had time to track down. Once they are all tagged it will be easier to go back to them when the mood strikes.

Victoria Harbour, ON

That's what I like, someone who loves to share....

(Zone 1)

I found this here on DG under "Extra's": http://davesgarden.com/gq/

Lyndonville, NY

I know many of you are familiar with this song....but I always thought it would make a great garden or porch sign.....I wish I was talented enough to do it!

I see trees of green........ red roses too
I see em bloom..... for me and for you
And I think to myself.... what a wonderful world.

I see skies of blue..... clouds of white
Bright blessed days....dark sacred nights
And I think to myself .....what a wonderful world.

The colors of a rainbow.....so pretty ..in the sky
Are also on the faces.....of people ..going by
I see friends shaking hands.....sayin.. how do you do
Theyre really sayin......i love you.

Debbie

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

plantladylin, I am so glad you posted that! I remember when it was assembled and Dave used one of the quotes in the newsletters! Many of those quotes are "old friends" and it is nice to see them again.

Debbie, You are right, that song would make a good sign. Now if I can quit humming it I can try to get some work done!

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Debbie---I was humming it too as I read it.......I could even hear that croaky voice that sang it. WHO was it? Sounded like Satchmo....
Then--I am an "Oldie" but a "goodie"....I still love all the old music...

Gita

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

Yes, Louis Armstrong "Satchmo" http://www.amazon.com/What-A-Wonderful-World/dp/B000QN9W78

Lyndonville, NY

Here you go, crank it up and sing along.....and great pictures also!

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

At my son's wedding, this was the groom & mother first dance song. Thanks for the lmemory and link Debbie!

Lyndonville, NY

That is the song my DD is thinking of having for her father/daughter dance, in just a few weeks! She loves the Hawaiian version also....it is a combination of What a wonderful World and Somewhere over the Rainbow.

Debbie

(Zone 1)

Oh, what a great garden sign those song lyrics would make! Yes, "Satchmo" (Louis Armstrong) originally ... then Kermit The Frog sang it too! ^_^

And ... isn't this funny, we were watching America's Got Talent last night and one contestant is the sweetest, most adorable little 4 year old! girl, so well spoken for being so young and she sang that song on the show last night! Too cute!

Oh, I would love to hear the Hawaiian version ... the combination of the two I bet is really great!

Lyndonville, NY

Here you go. I picked this specific one, as it shows the young man and a bit of his story. It goes with the pictures. Unfortunately he passed away at the age of 38 from medical problems due to his weight problems. He had such an amazing voice....and did so much for others.

Enjoy.

Debbie,

Thank you for that absolutely wonderful video! Mr. Israel K. ( Bruddah IZ) was a special talent.

I remember now, hearing Jason Castro sing that version on American Idol, but had forgotten about it.

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

I have this picked out to be played at my funeral...along with Hallelujah and the theme from Titanic. Having had 2 major heart attacks, I have had to give these things thought.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Wow, what wonderful posts to start my day...I love Satchmo's music..now we're all singing songs, doesn't it make you want to smile..you wouldn't if you heard me singing both off key...

Nanny_56, not unusual to pick songs one would like played at the funeral..I know which one I want but not sure of the name..it was played at my SIL Barb's funeral..had to do with children praising their mother for her good deeds..boys will surely put that song at the bottom of the list..lol

Glenview, IL

Oh Good Morning!!
Wow, I love that song, by Louie Armstrong...guess right away too.
Yep, joining in the humm with a smile too.

Have a a Wonderful day!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning everyone. Hope your having a good day.
I am back from my trip to san Antonio. I have my dad all transferred to my Sister, and they should be in Michigan this afternoon.
On my way home this morning, the last song I heard as I was pulling in the driveway, was this song. it is just a comforting song!
Picture is of my double yellow daturas blooming this morning. Some are double, but most of these are triple, and one is a quad! So pretty.

Beautiful Linda Kay, visited the Alamo in San Antonia..wanted to do some sightseeing, but Barb, girlfriend that I travelled with had mega allergies and it was very 'musty' in a lot of these places so we had to leave...what amazed me was here was the Alamo with an entire city built around it...not something I think those pioneers could ever envision..lol

Lyndonville, NY

Betty, on Friday I took the girls to the "mall" and while they were shopping, I went into a craft store. Saw many signs that made me think of you and your wonderful project,

But this one I think I need made into a T-shirt or something.

Dear God,
Please keep your arm around my shoulder....
And your hand over my mouth!

This was so true when I heard some of the people at the stores.

Debbie

Victoria Harbour, ON

Debbie, you'll not believe this but I HAVE a t-shirt with that written on it..bought it in Florida a few seasons ago..so funny...
