Liriope, mondo grass, monkey grass. Many diff types, varieties and habits, some grow 24" n like a grass, spread quickly by rhizomes n by seed. Some r dwarf, dont grow too much, personal experience- I had a clump of the Liriope gets 24" pretty purple flowers, dug it up, laid out 30' of edging with 1 root each 3" to block erosion. that was in 2000. today that row is about 30" wide, n the clump i thought i had removed is back n just as big. In fall I shear it to the ground or just mow n rake n burn. Dau has a dwarf black mondo, n it doesnt seem to do anything but survive.
