Short groundcover with small flowers.

Santa Monica, CA

I CAN'T FIND THE NAMES OF ANY SHORT, HEARTY GROUNDCOVERS WITH TINY FLOWERS.

I'm getting frustrated. I see them, but I don't know what to look for--names of them. I live in Santa Monica, CA (10), and I don't know how to find one; various kinds that take over like grass or moss, short, durable, tiny flowers----usually white or blue, but I don't care.

I also want some Pampas and some Liriope, but it seems that no one on the web can sell it to CA. Can some sites do that?

Finally, I bought nasturtiums, and they fell over, so all that one sees on the ground are stems. It's so weird; they grew wonderfully, and were so beautiful, till they were about 10 inches, then they fell over in clumps, and just lie there, with their flowers still blooming..... Any thoughts?

Isotoma is a good ground cover with tiny foliage and small blue or white flowers. It spreads pretty quickly and is really pretty when in bloom.

Creeping thyme is also nice...lavender flowers.

Dymondia is a thick leaf GC that is REALLY tough, but a bit on the coarse side. and is good for choking out weeds.

Be glad the nasturtiums didn't work...they'd reseed everywhere and you'd be forever pulling them out.

In another post this evening I suggested looking at the High Country Gardens website for groundcovers - you might try there also - photos etc., with descriptions of growing conditions etc. so you can choose wisely.

Also you can also go to stepables.com for some ideas and also google stepable or steppable groundcover

Your clilmate would be perfect for a groud cover that supposingly doesnt grow over 6" but spreads really well and is soft to touch with purple or white flowers-- its called myoporum. I hope I spelled it right.
