Good morning all.

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Afternoon Tia..lol.. just got in from church and fixing to eat.. hope everyone's day is a great one!!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Good evening everyone. Have a great night.
Linda kay

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

ok who's getting all the rain they say is around??? They keep telling us we have a chance of rain but it seems to be going around us LOL

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

We got a much needed rain all last night, but today, just hot and humid. But all my plants were so perky, and a beautiful green this morning!
Linda Kay

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

I know the rain that came through here last Sunday and Monday helped my stuff I was just hoping we would get a lil more like they have been telling us is around LOL..

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Hey ya'll... we got the same rain I guess Phyllis.. and none today either, but like Linda Kay.. everything really perked up!! Even though I water with well water.. the rain always seems better for the plants...

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

hey beck ..I have some tubs outside to get rain water ..DH modified one of the down spouts so it goes into the big tub..someday I'll find a big drum to use instead LOL but when it is empty I fill it up with water and let it sit for at least a day before I let him use it to water anything.

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Phyllis... you "let"..... you "LET"...????? your DH water?? LOL I wish... NOT around here... I do all the watering.. you lucky stiff!!

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

Let??? STIFF????? am I missing something someplace am I dead and don't know it and too dumb to lay down???? ..I mean I know I have cold feet alot but that is due to running around barefoot I thought ..cold hands warm heart ...cold feet no sweetheart ...ROFLMAO

Yes he waters the garden, the flowers, and the "grass" ...more so the plants then grass he may complain but that is just him making noise ...shhhh don't tell him I told his secret but he enjoys the plants as much as I do

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

you are BAD.. you hear me?? LOL

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

say wha? you like my pad? you love your dad? LOL

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

I have a "hubby" story for the day, LOL! My DH came outside (he is NOT a gardener whatsoever, but enjoys "looking" at my work) and saw some milk jugs with Oleander sprigs I am rooting for Charlene. What in the world is that he says...Cuttings for my friend to take to the RU in October. Him: why the heck would someone want little cuttings of those old things when they can just go buy a small oleander bush for a little of nothing? Why bother, he says? WHAT??????????? I then had to explain the concept of giving to friends, the fun of sharing plants at the RU, the learning experience of rooting, etc. etc. etc. Whatever makes you happy makes me happy honey, he says. (he always says that, and most of the time I like it that way! He doesn't care what I do here, whether it be building a pond or redoing the yard, I never have to ask him for what I buy or do.

I do wish I had a hubby that took interest in my gardening and we could work together, but it is a horrid chore for him, no fun. When he was young his unloving father abused him as a workhorse for the family for years, and part of that was constant weeding and yard work. As a result, he's not able to find any joy in any thing related to the yard. But he does humor me in whatever I want to do out there as far as buying me things and digging occasional holes that are too hard for me. I really envy you gals that have the pleasure of doing this with your husbands.

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Mornin Everyone!!

Phyllis... I would say... "you NUT".. LOL but you might turn that around too.. you might say... wha??? you have a hut?? you in a rut??..LOL.. believe it or not... when we are in the car going somewhere.. Lyle will say.. look .. what's that plant??..so I think he has more interest than what I thought.. and he is forever telling me... "you need to fertilize".. hmmm.. I keep telling him.. yeah.. I KNOW I do.. hoping he will volunteer.. so far.. no such luck!!

Karen.. been wondering about you.. where you are... cute on the hubby, and nice he will help you...mine is such a Dennis the menace.. I "really " don't know if I want his help..lol.. Also the nice thing about sharing plants is being able to get plants you might otherwise not be able to afford.. gosh have you seen the price of some of these plants?? And of course.. being able to see all the plants grow, and remember the sweet people that gave them to you... I guess that is the # 1 for me..

Gilmer, TX

And don't forget the price of shipping. Lorraine was down yesterday and we found some plants we were going to order. That is until we got to the shipping..... the plants were $30.00 and the shipping was $22.00. Needless to say, we did not order. And like beck said, those you order don't have all the nice memories attached.

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

I just have to learn to put name tags on everything so I remember with the plant is as can remember who I get things form but not the names of everything as some of the tags have disappeared from them LOL

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Phyllis.. I need to do that too.. as I can't remember every plant, and every person that gave it..LOL..maybe we'll get better, and then maybe NOT..LOL

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

umm what was that I forgot LMAO

Carrollton, TX(Zone 8a)

I would like to come - but it's over two hour drive for me - I'll have to see if I'm up to it - stinks gettin old and sick!!!

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

Here Kitty, kitty....me too, but I ain't gonna miss this one...you'd be suprised what it does for the soul......

"eyes"

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

That's right Jerrie!! Kittylover... please try to come... you don't have to worry about plant trading!! WE just LUV to meet everyone, have a great time.. and there are some good cooks too as a bonus for lunch.. you just can't resist!!

helloooooo.... where's everyone at???

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

Heellloooooo I'm here was just working on gettin my list of kids in order of pick up.

I sure hope not all 85 of them ride or I'll have a problem come monday..buses only hold 75.

As to anyone thinking of coming yes we love to have anyone show up plants or no plants makes no difference!!!
Getting to meet face to face and talk plants and gardening and have some fun and enjoy the day is just as good.

And yes there will be food to eat and I will get a thread started soon for that part too....homemade or store bought either one works or even helping someone closer with the cost of making something works too for those that are traveling a distance.

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

Hello everyone! I am officially volunteering to organize the Door Prize segment of our RU if it seems like enough people are interested. I think we all enjoyed it at the last RU but there is definitely room for improvement on the ways we can do it. Our first RU was a good learning experience. I have a few ideas about what I would like to see, and I would like suggestions and opinions from any and all of you ☺ I am listing my thoughts, and we will all work together to put together a great plan, so please let me know what you think.

I would like to suggest that we take a short break (maybe right after lunch?) where we all cease trading for a moment and do the door prizes. It should not take long. I'll call the number out, person comes and gets it, till everyone has one. Then we can continue on with our trading. I will sit with the door prizes until they are awarded so that they are safe and accounted for, and go to whom they are supposed to go.

You bring a door prize, you get a door prize. This will be monitored by numbering each person that brings a door prize's tag, and numbering the door prizes. Phyllis and I will have to talk about that, because we also want to keep up with how many attend, not sure how we'll go about the numbering...

I above all people, do not have much money at all, so I know this area may be touchy. I was thinking maybe putting a limit price on the prize value, but want your opinions especially here. How much should it be? The point is, that we want to bring a gift as nice as we will receive. This does not mean you have to go out and spend a huge amount of money. But put some thought into your gift........Make it something you would be proud and happy to receive. Make a gift basket, with seeds, gloves, etc. I'm sure we can all come up with something nice ☺

OK, the door is open now for you all to tell me how you feel. Do you want to do this? What do you think of my suggestions? I'm only a volunteer, this party is for all of us, LOL!

I'm going to Double Post this on trades and general RU info too so no one will miss it.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

A door prize drawing sounds nice. I will bring something. Are you going to start a new thread for this?
Linda Kay

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

Karen and I were talking and we would just keep it within the threads already going since there is the Arlington Ru goin on too and we don't' want to get people confused and miss post.

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

Yes, we want to avoid confusion, LOL! Lord knows I'm always confused anyway ☺

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Why is there 2 round ups, so close together, in location, and time?
Linda Kay

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

Because we are in East Texas, and they are in North Texas. Some people can't make the mileage to go to an area that they don't live near, or may not choose to go to one or the other, although they are certainly welcome to. Although many choose to go to RU that are not specifically in their area because they have friends there, the general purpose of area RU's is to fulfill a need for a gathering of DG's in that particular area.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Ok, I gotcha.
Linda Kay

Carrollton, TX(Zone 8a)

Cute "eyes" - Like I said - I would like to come - have to see what I can do - but I will try

Haves so far:
coral nymph, Salvia coccinea
chinese foxgloves, rehmannia elata
bog sage, Salvia uliginosa
cashmere bouquet, Clerodendrum bungei

Will try to add more later as I do cuttings.

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Lynea.. are we nuts or what.. going to both RU's..LOL well... we have to feed our addictions..right?? BUT.. you need to post on the trades thread.. or have you??

doh, I thought this was the trade page.lol Miss a day or two and it takes forever to catch up with the posts:0)

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

LOL hey we are all nuts anyway for plants

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

YEP

(Maggi) Big Sandy, TX(Zone 8a)

Yes on door prizes Karen!

How do you set a value on something home made? I have a couple neat (I think) ideas for one-of-a-kind prizes (one from me, one from Ken - LOL!)

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Maggie..I don't think you can set a value on something homemade.. Many times it takes countless hours to make something and you would never get a fair wage for the hours involved. It has to be the semtimental value.. and of course.. to me.. that is priceless!!

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Lynea.. can I please have a start of the chinese foxglove... sounds like it would do well here.. do I have anything I can bring you??

(Maggi) Big Sandy, TX(Zone 8a)

OKEY DOKEY, I just didn't want to go ahead and do something if it wasn't what's expected :~)
