I just bought a home and have an Emerald Gaity in a location that I do not like. I recently purchased two new plants and placed them around my mail box as an adournment and would like to transplant the other. Is this possible, or do I need to Propogate?
Emerald Gaity/Burning Bush
It should be possible--summer is probably not the best time to try it though, I'd wait for cooler weather. The trick with transplanting anything is to make sure and get as much of its roots as possible when you dig it up--the less roots you leave behind the less stress the plant will go through in its new location.
Go ahead and transplant. Come out where the over hang of the plant is and dig down then over. If you dig in at an angle you'll cut the roots off. Once you do that just amke sure it's watered well, even in the winter. Now, if it's freezing then no but otherwise cool weather doesn't take the palce of water
Wait until fall then transplant. Be SURE to water in it REALLY WELL and keep it moist into late fall.
