Yesterday when I went outside the juvenile Green Heron was waiting on the wire. This was the third time I've seen it here. That's a bit of a surprise, because my little creek is dry until we get some rain. There is a larger (and still flowing) one across the highway, but it's not visible from here.

The same heron, with crest and a lot more neck. (I didn't know they had a crest!) Too bad it's head is behind the wire.

Fantastic thread everyone! I haven't been out much in the incessant rain we're having but I'm so enjoying everyone's posts here.
A few favourites are Dellrose's juvie cardinal and heron, Margaret's osprey and pelican, tigerlily's heron, Resin's baby cormorants and Pelletory's chickadee.

Nice photos Tiger, burn, resin and nanny. Thanks for your comments. Thanks also for the information on the pelican, Resin. I was astounded. It's almost like he did it knowing it would surprise me. kniphofia, lucky you with rain. If you get fed up with it, send it over here.

Darter. These birds are usually so wary of people you can't get within cooee of them. I took this shot on the city's doorstep yesterday, slowly making my way home after buying this new lens.

Rose the pic of the Blue Jays in the dead tree looks like a great one for the captions thread.

A female Cardinal at the same feeding dish! It is amazing how many birds eat from that "feeder"!

If you think of a caption for the BJ's Pelle...go for it!! My funny bone is AWOL! LOL!

Here is a bird I shot while at Magic Kingdom in Orlanda last week. I don't know what kind of bird it is but he/she sure was not afraid of me. The bird allowed me to get within a few feet of him.

This Male Cardinal and his mrs. stuck around for quite a while while we were relaxing at the Wildlife Sanctuary pond. He was quite mad that we didn't bring food.

Need a confirmation on this one. I think it's an Eastern Phoebe. There is a slight notch in the tail.

Thanks, Shan, pelletory and kniphofia.

Rose, you're right. That new lens and I have bonded. I love it. Your pics are absolutely beautiful, as always, but I think you've excelled yourself with the Indigo Bunting. That is spectacular.

Nice shot of the boat-tailed grackle, Methodical. I thought the same as Mrs Ed; that it looked kinda like a cross between a heron and the photos I've seen of your American Robins.

I took this shot of a baby Tawny Frogmouth that was being rehabilitated by a now deceased friend who dedicated her life to looking after sick, injured and orphaned native birds. Not long before she died one of the local councils in Perth held a civic reception for her and a local lake was renamed in her honour. This was taken several years ago, but I just love the expression on its face.
