It looks like it's a super lens, Margaret. Great shot of the Osprey. Love your shots also Rose, especially the sparrow in the brush pile, what great colors. I saw a Blue-Gray Gnatcatcher here last winter and they do always seem to be moving...have to move fast to catch those gnats I guess :)
DAILY PICS VOL 131
Lots' of activity at that Suet feeder, Nanny.
Wow Nanny...can't believe that shot with the 4 birds and that BlueJay hanging like a WP is priceless! You rock Nanny!
Great shots everyone!
Rose, Wonderful shot of the Great Blue Heron!
Margaret love the Osprey!
Wow GM...great pic! If I saw one of those I would drop my teeth and then my camera! How big was it and is it a first for you?
Super great shot of Osprey Margret, nice to have a real close up view.
Those Gnatcatchers sound like the warblers here, they never stop much either. Only when they are thirsty or needs a bath, that I can have easy pictures. Cute little bird he is Rose.
Wonderful pics of Bluejays and Woodpeckers Nanny.
Good shots of the 3 birds together Evie
Love your Cormorant also GM
Took 185 pictures today, trying out different settings. Had to delete quite a few. But a few came out pretty good. like this Purple finch.
Very nice pic burn!
Lovely shots Nanny, the wren seem to be signing you a tune. Cute
Would love to see those Baltimore Oriole in my yard.
Yes, I have never seen a Baltimore Oriole in my yard, I would heart to see one!!
Dellrose, I have been on the lakes and ocean for some time. But have not taken pics until a few years back.
I have seen ospreys, herons, egrets, eagles, etc but pics will come one day! No, this was not a first for me.
Did not go out much last year and this year due to injuries. Hope to get some good pics this fall! GM

Lovely shots Burn and Nanny!
Thanks for the info GM...he is really tall! I used to live half a block from the beach and missed all that action!!
Well, I don't know if anyone else had the same problem, but I've been unable to get into DG today, until now, 10pm. Nevertheless, thanks Mrs Ed, pelletory, nanny, Rose, evie_beevie, Gardenpom and Burn for your comments.
nanny, what great shot of the Woodpeckers and Blue Jays.
Rose, you and nanny could do a face-off over who has the greater variety of birds. Great pics.
Beautiful Steller's Jay, adelbertcat.
Love the cormorant, Grandmaggie. Are they also called "shags" where you are?
Burn, you have a very colourful garden. Lovely shots. The Purple Finch looks has colours like a borlotti bean pod.
I couldn't believe my eyes when this Australian Pelican opened his mouth and encased his entire upper body with the lower part of his highly flexible bill. It only lasted a few seconds and I was so dumbfounded I didn't take a second shot.
eeek. that's weird.
Great shot Margaret...it looks like that Pelican was trying to impress you!! (If they only knew)!!
Nanny..I'm so glad your Mama Blue has showed up!
Love the cormorant, Grandmaggie. Are they also called "shags" where you are?
It used to be thought that there were three subgenera of cormorants, large ones (typical cormorants), medium-sized marine ones (shags), and small freshwater ones (pygmy cormorants). Grandmaggie's is a Double-crested Cormorant, which is one of the typical cormorants. Pic below is a European Shag. North American species in the shag group include Red-faced and Pelagic Cormorants. More recent genetic evidence has complicated issues somewhat, the genetic groups don't match the old ideas well.

That's something they do to keep the bill pouch supple and correctly tensioned - it is mentioned in one of my books.
Resin
Hey Margarett nice shot of the Osprey. Is that with the new D40 and which lense were you trying out at that time. How close were you to the bird.
Thanks

Wow Margaret, cool shot! Great pics everyone!
Nanny that crow almost looks like a bear...it is really a cute shot!
Resin...Please share what books you wrote, it you don't mind. Nice shot BTW!
Sorry, not a book I wrote (there aren't any!), just one I have!
I guess I just assumed you should have written one...thanks Resin!
2 downy woodpeckers were working on a dead elm tree yesterday. Our feeders are only out from mid-Oct to mid-April as there is plenty of food in out area during the summer. B.Orioles like our tulip poplar but leaves make them difficult to see. 30 yrs ago in another house with 5 of the trees, it was a constant show.
