Steller's Jay in the Maiden Pinks, Dianthus Deltoides.
Birds & Flowers
Wonderful pics Gary! I'll have to see if I can dig anything up.
What wonderful photos. The colours are fantastic. How long do they stay, where have they come from and where do they go to?
Wonderfull! First for me! Thanks Grasmussen.

For many years the Jays would come for handouts, except during the breeding season, and the coldest part of the winter. Back then I believed they stayed in the thick brush along the creek, during those periods of time. However, I have been puzzled as to why they don't come regularly during the spring, and a much shorter time in the late summer, in recent years. I'm sure they are in the neighborhood during the spring, because they have come to the feeder, on rare occasions.
Gary
Thanks Gary. They are stunning birds.
Yes, but those Cone Flowers are just a little bit past prime. It would have been fantastic, if the Goldfinch hadn't been a week late.
Ah but the bird is there for the seeds . . . if the flowers had been at their prime, the bird wouldn't have had any reason to perch there . . .
Thats gorgeous Dave!
I love the pictures on this thread...the colors are just gorgeous, I'm glad you started it Gary!
I used to cut all my flowers down in the fall but a neighbor told me the birds would eat the seeds so I left them and this winter it was a beautiful sight to see the Goldfinches on the Purple Coneflowers tearing off the seeds! I also saw them eating the seeds on the Cockscomb and they would use the Hydrangea for cover! Even though it doesn't look as tidy, this year I'm not cutting down anything and will leave it all for the birds.
Beautiful pics guys!
These Bunchberries are long past the flower stage, on the Dwarf Dogwood. However the berries are more colorful than the white flowers would have been. I gave Jay his morning ration of peanuts next to the Bunchberries, a few minutes ago. He was moving so fast in all of the other pictures, some part of him was blurred.
Exquisite little birds. Thanks.
Look at that sweet bird!
These are all just beautiful!
GP...I love that Great Crested Flycatcher...what a colorful pic.
Thanks. This was by far the best opportunity I have had to photograph the Flycatcher. Wish it could have been sharper, but I am glad it turned out this well.
Beautiful shots Gary!
Great choice of background. Lucky you that you can get a wildbird to go where you want!!! ^_^
Clever thinking, Gary. Brilliant shots of a spectacular bird.
Excellent photos of the Stellar Jay, Gary. Send some my way .............
Dave, nice photos of the Goldfinch. Their colorful presence is always a welcome sight during the summer months.
boojum, nice House Wrens. It seems as though my House Wrens and Carolina Wrens have disappeared after nesting under my deck.
gardenpom, neat shot of the Great Crested Flycatcher ........ I'll have to look through my images to see if I have any bird/flower photos.
Great to see your birds again kennedyh!!! How little is the Little Wattlebird? That Eastern Spinebill male is a handsome lad!
Little is only relative to the other Wattlebirds. The Little Wattlebird is about 30 cm, the Red Wattlebird 35 cm and the Yellow Wattlebird from Tasmania is the largest of all the honeyeaters at 43 cm. The Eastern Spinebill is among the smallest honeyeaters at only 15 cm.
Wonderful pics kennedy! So nice to see some different birds and flowers!
