I love my h. patens! It's so big this year, mine does suffer frost bite though, even in the warm area I have it in :( And I hardly water mine, too, but it gets water from the surrounding plants that I do water lol
Another one Debbie.....
AZ--I've had mine for about 8-10 years. It freezes to ground level every single winter and I cut it down to about 6" as soon as it freezes. I plant daffodil's under it all around and it sucks the water out of the ground in the summer--a real no care plant once it get established after a couple of years
=)
My hamelia dies back every winter so it does not get large at all. It is flowering it's little heart out right now though.
Wow, I don't feel so bad about mine now, it only froze back a bit this past winter. And poor marie, you have it hard woman!
mine freezes to ground level and is 7'-8' tall and 5' around now--it will get larger as it gets older Marie.
I sure hope it does but then again maybe not since it too is not planted in the right place if it will get that big!!
crap that is huge! Mine has been in the ground for a little over a year now that I think about it, so not long at all. It's about 3'x2'. I can't imagine it getting as big as yours Debbie, I'll have to move some things lol but wait, that leaves a HUGE empy space in winter :(
Lynn I think you and I will both be very busy this fall/winter!!
I'm trying to get a head start on it but there are other things to do. Hey BTW my goldman senna has buds!
Pictures please!!
yes please!
=)
lol I don't think they're open yet, but I will try and remember to take one when they are. They look like they will be tiny.
I will take Boozer's picture anyday!! He looks like he is saying he misses me :o)
No I did not get that senna. I sure need one though!!
I love it, small plant, small leaves, but it has that unusual dark stem. I wonder if it will ever get big lol
and, no, he does not miss you!!!!
the pup is the best shot of the day!
what a sweetie he is
=)
Well give us a preview of that senna. Oh and yes he does miss me!!
Ok where did you get that one?? It would look great with the climbing one I have. Although maybe not I have enough to move as it is.
That's from DS like 1 1/2-2years ago. I had thought you had asked D to grab one for you but they must've been gone, there were only a couple and it was during a sale I think.
What climbing senna?
Az--that's a desktop shot
=)
You should him when he's looking REALLY pitiful lol He's such a big baby.
Yummy!
Love it!!!
thanks Az, I guess some of them might bloom mid to end of Sept when they are supposed to....or not if we don't get anymore rain. Right now it looks like we are back to hot and dry no rain predicted in the future.
=)
Marie--we crossed again--thanks!
=)
ok, I am keeping my fingers crossed on mine, they've been in the ground about 2 years now, they have to bloom sooner or later :(
L radiata is the most frustrating of all of them in my opinion--so tempermental about blooming
So I amy never see mine bloom :o(. I will try again this spring and this time I will mark them so I know where to watch for them at.
Hey Marie........do you ever watch the concrete forum? Someone over there used small molds, like for candy and soap, to make concrete markers for their bulbs, when it was wet they put a 6" nail in the back to go in the ground when it ws all done. i was thinking small fake rocks with a nail in the back....paint them all bright colors. You should make your slef like a million of those lol, they would cover every square inch....wait, that wouldn't work lol
don't move them Marie--they resent being moved. None of the other Lycoris I grow (and I grow a lot of them--lol) mind being moved at all--except for the ornery L radiata.
I swear I'm going to get rid of all of the L radiata and not grow them anymore--just as soon as I can find them all to dig them--they are all dormant now (no leaves, not even on the ones blooming).
=)
lol I'm just leaving mine....I KNOW they will reward me one day! They just hvae to.
they bloom for me about 3 years out of 5--99% of the years at least a few will bloom. last year was the exception but we had a really wet spring and summer. all the other species bloomed last year except for, you guessed it, the L radiata.
=)
OK, so it wants a dry spring and summer?
who knows what they want AZ--lol--I'm seriously thinking about going out there and offering the rest of the L radiata's a cool cocktail, perhaps bribery will work
I know the rest of them are not going to bloom until Oct--with one possible exception species wise
=)
Hmmmmmm........maybe they're beer bulbs?
Drunk bulbs!! I like that idea!!
