when to harvest cucumbers

Slidell, LA(Zone 8b)

this is my first time growing cucumbers and I only have ONE! lol all the rest shriveled up and died. It is about 6 inches long and has filled out. The color is a yellowish green and the end is starting to get darker. How do I know when to pick it?

Glen Ellyn, IL(Zone 5b)

Pick cucumbers early, as soon as they reach full length.

Left on the vine, they just get seedy and tough. Also, keeping them picked will encourage the vine to set more fruit.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

I'd pick it now.

If you want to get more cucumbers, then I'd pick up the slack from your local bees and other pollinating insects. Find a male flower and pick it. Peel off the petals to expose the 'innards'. Find a female flower (it has a small fruit behind it) and rub the male flower on the female flower. This can be done in the morning when it's not 100 degrees.
