Does anyone know where to get powdered dyes (vs liquid)
to dye concrete? Home Depot has only the liquid, nothing at Frank's, no Wal-Mart or Lowe's in the area. Is there
perhaps a mail order supplier?
I poured my 3 decorative molds today (sun, moon, rose) and am anxious to see how they turn out--left them the natural concrete color for my initial attempt. Could I paint them to emphasize the detail? What kind of paint would I use?
Thanks for any ideas!

Stepping Stones/powdered dyes for
Our local craft store has (had) powdered dye, also the craft area in Hancock Fabrics had paint specifically made for use on concrete. I could check with them-the craft store is Wisconsin Craft Market --but I think that Hancock Fabrics may be a national chain.
Thanks Marcia.
No Hancock Fabrics around here --maybe they have a web site--will check for them and Wisconsin Craft Market.
Appreciate the leads!

Sandy : I called the craft store. The powder comes in Moss green, sandstone, dusky mauve, charcoal, terra cotta and celestial (the fellow did not know what this one was, but I suspect some kind of blue. The 4 oz. packets are $1.99. I called the fabric place-they have bottles (mine was 2 oz) for 1.49 (although I though I paid more) and said they had every color imaginable-since I can imagine a lot, I did not ask them to specify as it is Sunday and they are probably short staffed. My bottle is DecoArt patio paint and has a web-site of http://www.decoart.com Let me know if I can be of any help, the stores are right next to each other and are not very far from me.
Hi Marcia!
Wow, thanks for all the detective work. That DecoArt site was very helpful and I found the patio paint at Michael's
in oodles of colors and on sale for 99cents/2oz bottle---think you brought me good luck with that one!
The powders I still can't find and did want to try them.
If you get a chance can you read the pkg and see how much concrete a 4 oz pkg will dye?
Thanks again!

Sorry I got back to this forum so late. The packets are 2.29 each and they recommend 1-2 packets for 7 pounds of mix. The blue is a bright blue and they did not have much in stock yesterday when I checked, they are putting out Halloween and Christmas stock. Marcia
Thanks Marcia. There was no rush to get back to me--I was away anyway. Appreciate the info.
Might contact you and take you up on your offer to shop for me--will send you a direct e-mail if I do.
I was at a concrete farm today. It had a great huge concrete form of a hebrew lady. Unpainted it was only a hundred bucks. Painted it was a hundred and sixty. It was all one color too... I asked what kind of paint they used. This lady said a plastic paint, she "special mixes".
I think this is a crock. This is used on airplanes? Does anyone know this brand? It would take alot of paint to coat this figure. That lady did a good job, but I cant afford the extras. (this would be a MAJOR purchase for me) Any ideas?
Kelly - use a paint or stain from the hardware store designed for concrete floors. It comes in gallon sized cans.
THANKS POPPYSUE!!!
I do alot of concrete,,I have found that rit dye works for a colorant for pastel shades it takes a couple of boxes or bottles,,mix either in your water so you do not change the amount of liquid used and ruin your concrete,,Personally I do not care for the patio paints although I know several who love them,,they do not hold up in my climate at all plus I hate the drying time
Kelly is talking about an epoxy based paint which can be mixed,,it is not may favorite either it has a fairly long drying time unless you are spraying it on in thin layers ,,I found it hard to work with ,,
as far as it goes the concrte paints are nice but expensive if your doing more then a couple of colors,,I occasionally use them for base tones,,but now from all the years I have done concrete I have found that you can use about any paint you want,,I use outside house latex to oil based stains to acrylics to tea dyes depending on what I need my piece to look like I combine several to get differnt looks,,then I clearcoat with automotive clearcoat which protect against the weather and sun fading,,good luck with which ever method you choose to use,,
thanks serenity...I sure am jealous of where u live....:-)
