I received a peace lily three years ago, when my brother passed away. I assumed it was a house plant,so I just watered it and feed it. I know nothing about house plants.I kept in a window with just a normal amount of natural light coming in.It really hasn't grown since i've had it,but it also hasn't died. I also haven't had blooms. One day I put it out on my deck to get some rain. It seemed to like it there. It started to grow and look better [probably my imagination],anyway ,now that I realize it should only be in the house, i'll take it back in. Does it have to have light from a window to do well? Why do you think it has acted bthis nway?
confused peace lily
I have a peace lily that I kept in the house last year. This year, I took it out, and it seems much healthier and is growing much better. Outside is their natural habitat anyway. I think your peace lily will be fine outside during the summer, just be sure to bring it in before it gets too cold for it. They don't like direct light, but they do need bright light(indirect) to bloom. Also, I think peace lilies need less fertilizer than other plants. I fertilize mine at 1/2 strength once a month spring-fall, and 1/2 strength ever six weeks in the winter. I began fertilizing at full strength and had brown tips all the time. I'm sure your lily is enjoying being rained on(cleans the leaves and keeps them glossy) and the higher humidity(keeps the leaf tips from browning and drying out), so I think it should do fine outside for you. Good luck!

If it was happy outside I don't see why you'd have to bring it in (at least until winter). Remember all houseplants are outdoor plants that just happen to also do well indoors, so the only reason to bring it inside is either because that's where you want to enjoy it, or because conditions in your area at a particular time of year aren't making them happy. So I say if it's happy, why change things.
I seem to learn something everyday on here. Its so good to know I accidently did something right.I guess thats how we learn.
Thanks again folks.
All of my plants benefit from the summer outdoors. You just have to be careful with sun strength on plants you first bring outdoors. All of mine shoot up in the summer outdoors.
When you put it outside and it got rained on, that would have washed any dust off the leaves. Plants benefit from the occasional shower to keep their leaves clean. With my peace lily, since the leaves are large, I use a damp, soft cloth and clean them individually.
The peace Lily likes to be almost pot-bound (filled the pot with top growth) to flower and they do like fed in the growing season, but half strength is best, indoors they need misting every few days especially in winter where our homes normally have heating on for our comfort, indoors direct sunlight is a killer, they grow in dapple shade in there natural habitat, so we should not sit them in a window where sunlight will act as a magnifying glass and kill the plant off, outdoors in sunshine is better as it also allows air around the foliage and rain water is best as sometimes our city water is too alkaline for a lot of plants that have to grow indoors, As Ecrane has said very well, all plants are outdoor plants depending which part of the world they come from/grow, we have to try imitate these conditions for the plants by growing them inside for protection against cold/frost. too wet/dry or even too hot depending on the plant, when you have to re-pot your peace lily, dont put it into a pot that is too big, just maybe one or two sizes up with fresh compost will be best, good luck. hi, talking about peace lily. i bought one for my mom for mother's day and wanted to know if you can start another one from clippings and how that is done any info would help. thanks i think it needs in another pot but i wanted to start another one also......
I don't think you can take cuttings from it, but you can divide it. I have a smaller one, but I can still see where new "plants" have grown away from the original. Just take it out of the pot and gently tease the separate plants roots apart and then pot it up.
