Hi everyone!
I'm planning on planting my first crop of garlic this fall. I'd really like a variety that stores well. Can anyone suggest good hardneck varieties that will store for 6+ months? Or what I'm really wondering about: Is there a soft-neck variety that's hardy to zone 3-4? I'd appreciate any advice! I go through so much garlic, I'd love to be able to grow my own! Thanks!
First time growing garlic...What types to grow in MN?
I'm going to grow garlic for the first time too... I've seen this site referenced before and it's great for info!

I have a german red often called a serpent garlic. It has been growing here on this property since 1915. It grows without any special care and I just used the last of last years crop. I always let some set topsets and some increase by the splitting of the bulbs. The ones I want to harvest for the year I cut the scapes off of and harvest in July when the foliage dies and starts to dry. It is pungent lovely garlic! Look for a german red for hardiness and great growth rate! I even have it in my flowerbeds for the interesting serpent like scapes they produce.
Thanks! I think I'll be trying the German Extra Hardy...sounds like it'll survive our Minnesota winters! I appreciate all the advice!
