WOW I was just there.. nice birds.. http://www.hometown.aol.com/mhbluegiants4u/

TamaraFaye, you seem to have many, many chooks! Wonder if you've got involved in genetics at any stage? I want Blue Laced Red Wyandottes, but they aren't available here in NZ.

I'm wondering what would happen if I put a GL Wyandotte rooster with Blue Orpington hens? (Can't get Laced Orpingtons here either). Can I mix breeds like that do you know? I know the Blue Laced variety comes from crossing a Gold laced with a blue Wyandotte. I think the Gold Laced have the burgandy from Rhode Island Reds, hence the dark red colouring.

Presumably there has been cross breeding at some stage.

Could be interesting....?

Clarkson, KY

Pret-ty pret-ty biiirds....Maybe I need some after all. Had a red with black lacing? come out of our second hatch this spring. Absolutely beautiful until the hawk took it. I forget if the giants are good layers...

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

i thought the best place ot share this info was here. this is a link about racoons, and what they eat, and what time of year. it could help you to know what your predators want, and when, and perhaps you can give them alternativeeating sources besides your flock...

Gate (Rochester), WA(Zone 7b)

tf, anyone come & save him yet? Know there are a few in your area on DG
hoping for a good outcome here. Nothing you can do bout the neighbor, I take it?
Can ya ship him? Or too old / hassle to ship? I would take, if needed.

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

yeah, he is about 4-5 pounds [only 14 weeks old], i could ship him, but i wouldn't want to ship him alone. i have a blue i could send with him. shipping is relaly expsive though.

i posted on craigs list, and someone flagged it off, just got it reposted. made a few calls to area breeders.

we really had big plans for him, i like the blues and splashes so much better than the blacks... this owuld not have happened if they weren't letting their peaches fall to the ground and rot! it attracted flying insects, which got his attention. so i asked her to clean up the mess, she told me to do it. so i did. but they will just keep falling, and when i am not looking, he is gonna disappear... ;-(

corss your fingers i can get rid of him tomorrow. and till then i will keep him locked up...

tf

londonderry, Australia

i will google it
take care

Gate (Rochester), WA(Zone 7b)

So josh, you don't live down under after all? Don't know where you are? well come to the club I'm in....lol. Lost together is better than alone, anyday! lol

Thanks TF, found it this morning......boy am I learning all over again. Who says you can't teach old dogs new tricks, eh? Hope you find a home for that guy. If you keep him locked up for a while, do ya think he'll forget about it and stay home?
Where on earth do you find all these breeders / hatcheries all over the country? You can't possibly have time to search all over the web? With kids, farm and livestock to take care of??? Must be prior info from AG degree & contacts, right???

Clarkson, KY

Wish I could take your Splash, but we've too many roos already. Looks like it's only about a 17 hour drive to your place. Josh is almost closer...

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

Shoot Josh is closer than Houston! Even if he IS in Ohio...

my cragilist ad was flagged immediately, and i reposted with DON'T REMOVE MY POST THIS IS NOT A JOKE... maybe it is the neighbor? it was flagged and removed again this morning.
my chicks fro sale ad is flagged nearly every Saturday, i ahve the info saved, and just keep re-posting... now CL is down with BUGS.... serves them right!

no, peafowl, i have LOTS of saved places in my favs folder, adn it is VERY organized. i think i cried for weeks a few years ago when my hard drive crashed and i lost all that info. i had lots of indo esp on Keiko goats...

we have a new dog today, SirDuke, he is part Great Dane.... we will see how he works out, has a really good attitude, but too much energy. if he woul djust killl that coon tonight i would let him sleep in MY bed... DH hasn't seen it yet, but he seems to be enjoying sleeping outside!

i don't htink the rooster will forget. going to the other side of the fence, it look slike a whole new world, full of bugs, with no other chickens. they are all locked up today, while we make sure the dog can't climb ou tof his pen...

londonderry, Australia

so were abouts do i live in america

Lodi, United States

You are in Ohio! You are a Midwesterner--even though it looks like the East. You are the heart and soul of America....very important in the upcoming elections. Congatulations!

LOL your a Buckeye Josh
Welcome to Ohio :)

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

hi Josh! welcome to the Buckeye State!

off topic, yesterday we did some shooting practice with the kids, and of course i finally got my turn. first time ever on skeets. the first one i totally missed for forgetting to COCK the dern thing... then hit two out of three after that.

not to be wasting pigeons [see i am stil talking about birds!] i switched to the 58 cal, a black powder. first time ever. well, it was 30 yards and DH had the 50 yard site up. so i skimmed over the target and into the dirt hill. and OOUCH!!!!!! the first kick was not so bad, i was NOT prepared for a second kick. my shoulder is till swollen. not to be undoen, a waited for him to repack it. why not, my shoulder is already sore i might as well hit the target, a 12 pack box over a 2x2 post... BAM!!!

DH coudlnt' believe his eyes when the post hit the ground! i may never care to shoot that heavy sucker again, depending on ho wlong it tkaes for my shouldre to feel like hanging laundry on the line, but i was [AM] tickled pink!!!

did everyone else have a good weekend? i am still slaving for chickens here...

tf

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

Here, we got the coop started and ran out of wire and metal. AND then came the rain, lost about 10 "dumb" birds, they insist on stying in this one corner OUTSIDE the pen in standing water. We have done everything to try to keep them out of there. The New coop will be 25 by 16. The top is up on it. Oh well when it rains it pours.

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

GREAT GOING! yes corners can be problems. i have tried putting coffee cans and such in corners. helps some, but soembody will always try to squeeze in there anyhow. sorry for you losses...

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

I have a galvanized tub in that corner now and they still get behind it. It has slowed down on the rain I am going to go out and see what I can do. BB in a bit.
