Nanny-- Great to see your fake tree. I thought I was the only one who did such things. The hummers look very happy with it. The birds also seem to enjoy the bird bath I have that is on a big tree stump more than the others that are just on stands or solitary.

Although I live on the edge of their 12 month range this is the first chipping sparrow I have seen in the summer.

It has been so hot and dry that the birds have started to remind me to water my flower and veggie beds.

I have started launching the boat in a different area of the marsh and found this nesting area. I think the majority of these are cattle egrets.

Nanny..the nesting area was four times the area shown in the photo but the photos of the total area shows no detail.

ys, there seem to be more lotus each year. It is an ideal plant for the big footed wadeing birds like the gallinules and moorhens. The green herons love to stand on the pads and fish. Also the red-winged blackbirds and the king birds take advantage of them to find food. The pads on the water supply the gallinules with floatation and food. The higher pads give them shade and shelter from the sun and the hawks.
