Seed Sprout Nursery Closing?

(JOE) Chicago, IL(Zone 5a)

Maybe for good ? http://shop.seedsprout.com/main.sc Very sad to learn about this purchased many a brug from her.

La Grange, TX(Zone 8b)

I'm really sorry to hear that. I have also placed many an order from her. In fact I am waiting for an order I placed about 2 weeks ago. Sometime last week I got an email asking if I wish to cancel the order or wait because they had a horrible aphid and whitefly infestation. I told them I would wait until the plants were clean again.

I can't believe that. I'm sorry to hear that and I hope Brenda and her family are well.

I fear we have entered the age of the 6" rooted cutting-in-a-cup for 6.99.
Brenda sells big, healthy plants...I'm a customer, so I know.
I've seen some stuff on e-bay that curdles my blood.
...and what about new hybrids?

Brenda is indispensable.

(Mary) Poway, CA(Zone 10a)

Many of my best brugmansia have come from Seed Sprout. It'll be a big loss to the Brugmansia community if they close for good. Hope everything works out for her and her family.

Milton, FL(Zone 8a)

Brenda is a friend and I hate to see her close but I know she has a lot on her plate beside the nursery.Perhaps she will change her mind.

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

Oh NO!!! So sad. Terrible loss to the brug community! I hope it is not permanent. Brenda and her family are in our prayers.

Berkeley, CA(Zone 10a)

sorry!

Generally, when a responsible grower halts shipment of plants due to insect infestation, it's an indication you won't receive affected plants.
It's the growers who DON'T halt shipment that help infect clean gardens.
I've lost a few old Brug pals to mites, fungus, you-name-it, for no apparent reason other than whatever did them in managed to hop the fence.
I lost an entire crop of hibiscus to insect larvae after I had purchased them from a reputable grower. I suspected them as the cause until I spoke to other gardeners in the area and found their hibiscus, despite previous health and good care, were succumbing to similar infestation.
I hesitate to express certainty of blame in such matters, as it can do unwarranted, irreparable damage to both spirit and reputation.
There are just too many variables to consider.
I'm sure that had the incoming plants shown infestation you, as an experienced horticulturist, would have segregated them immediately from the rest of your stock.
Spider mites love heat. To my knowledge, it's been hellishly hot in California this year. Many posts at the various plant societies from California gardeners have mentioned spider mite problems.
Check with your local county extension services, they will give you more information about local and current agricultural problems. They can also offer ways to clean up your infestation.
Have a great gardening season! ;-)

La Grange, TX(Zone 8b)

I need to correct a statement I made earlier regarding the reason I didn't get my order from Brenda right away. I had said the problem was spidermites. It wasn't. Repeat: It was NOT spidermites!!!! I've corrected it on the original posting as well.

The problem was aphids and whiteflies, but I just received D-mail from Brenda saying the plants are now clean. I apologize to Brenda for all the trouble I have caused her. I have bought quite a number of plants from her and they have always been clean.

Please forgive my recent speculation in regard to diseased plants. It has come to my attention that my plants were perhaps infected from some other source. I would never point a finger at a grower in a mean way! I so adore my plants from seed sprout. I was so pleased that they were forthcoming with information that might help me. I truly did not mean to point an accusing finger but rather clarify my hunt for the source of the little devils. I now understand the source isn't the problem, but rather the defense,is.
Again apologies to anyone i may have offended.
A.

Great people here at Dave's.
The outside world should be as amicable as this one.
;-)

(Nadine) Devers, TX(Zone 9b)

Yipee! I heard from Brenda and she is sending my brug I wanted..Yea!!! It will be going into off limits nursery area until I make sure it has a clean bill of health like I do my other plants!! I do hope Brenda is doing well...

Premont, TX(Zone 9b)

Brenda doesnt send out brugs if they are infested with anything..
you can bet anything u get from her is healthy!
I have been buying from brenda for about 2 years if not longer and have not gotten any sick brugs from her ever!

Livermore, CA(Zone 9a)

I have to agree with Elva. I have been buying brugs. from Brenda ever since she opened her site and have never gotten an sickly or infested plant from her.

I just feel heart sick that she is closing her business. Most of my really nice brugs. came from her.

Fountain, FL(Zone 8a)

For the last year and a half I have worked for Brenda off and on part time. She is most definitely fussy about the plants she ships...if she dosen't like the way they look or even a hint of a problem they don't get sent! On a personal level I hope Brenda doesn't close for good as I REALLY like working for her.

DeRidder, LA(Zone 9a)

I'm also sorry to hear Brenda may close for good. She will be missed!

I ordered a large order of brugs from her several months ago....thinking I would get brugs about 1 to 1 1/2 ft. tall....I was in shock when they arrive!!! 5 to 6 ft. tall.....all three big boxes full of beautiful, healthy brugs....some with blooms. All diease/insect free.

It's good to know a seller will put "stop shipment" on an order if something is wrong with that plant. That's the type of person I love dealing with....someone you can trust.

Premont, TX(Zone 9b)

Dolly
you are so right , I too have received blooming brugs from Brenda.. What a delight and thrill when I open that box and see the blooms.
I spoke to Brenda this week she and family are ok..
I do hope the closing isnt permanent.. It will be a great loss for all brug lovers.
Brenda is also a very caring person whom I hope to meet one day, I am proud to call her my Friend!

Elva

I think we need to resolve that we should keep Brenda on top of our retailers list and act accordingly.
I have a charge card and am willing to use it for top drawer plant material.
She's a peach...
Those 6 inch Bruggies give me the vapors. ;-)

Sunset Beach, NC(Zone 8a)

Go Gordo!

(Mary) Poway, CA(Zone 10a)

Me too. Got so spoiled by Brenda and a few other great sellers, that I'd be looking in the box for the 'rest of it' if I got one of those 6 inch plants. Remember that old commercial where the lady yelled "Where's the beef?!" I'd be yelling "Where's the Brug?!"

College Station, TX(Zone 8b)

When will I ever learn the "snooze you lose" concept of plant ordering. I so wanted one of the white and yellow brugs from her, but thought I'd just wait a little before I ordered it. Rats!!

Anne

DeRidder, LA(Zone 9a)

Elva, You would really enjoy meeting her! I had the pleasure of meeting Brenda & her family this year at the FL./AL. RU. Brenda is a very sweet person with a great sense of humor......Enjoyed learning a little more about brugs from her.

I agree Gordo! Emailed Brenda a couple of weeks ago about purchasing another large order from her...So I'm waiting now in hopes to get one soon.

Mpabbott, Enjoyed "Where's the brugs"! Thanks for the laugh.

Concord, CA(Zone 9a)

I also have got alot of brugs and seeds from seed sprout and am going to miss buying and looking at her web sight.
Linda

Winston Salem, NC

Brenda is truly a great person with wonderful plants. I've always received nothing but healthy over-sized plants from her and I feel fortunate to be growing out hundreds of seedlings from her crosses now.

I had the privilege of visiting her family and nursery this spring and even though I was traveling with my employees, she insisted we stay for dinner and cooked homemade chili for us.

Hang in there Brenda!

Here she is showing off one of her great brugs in her nursery -

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

How I would love getting a brug that big!! I bet they're pretty expensive, huh? But worth it!!

Brookhaven, PA(Zone 6b)

Brenda is top notch!!! I talked to her last week. She MAY just be taking a break.

Life is tough right now for all of us.

I love her dearly : )

Fountain, FL(Zone 8a)

Amen to that!!! I miss getting up at 5 to be at work at 6:30. Brenda is a fantastic boss and friend! Naner,naner...we're close enough (distance wise).. I can go visit any time. OK...won't rub it in says Ginger ducking. :-)))

Disputanta, VA(Zone 7a)

I just left Brendas site & was putting some things in my cart, then my connection was terminated. I can't pull it up anymore. I'd definitely like to order some things, hoping I could help clear inventory a bit for her. Me too! LOL
Brenda your business will thrive, come back when you're able & see. Best wishes for a quick return. If we can still purchase somehow, pls. post how. Thanks.

Fountain, FL(Zone 8a)

If you hit the link in the first post (I just did) Brenda says to use the "contact us" tab to give her your E-mail addy so she can direct you to new site.

Mesa, AZ(Zone 9b)

It's not directing to a contact us tab anymore, site is entirely down. Would love to hear any news anyone has, like if Brenda will be able to start back up and what that new site is?

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7b)

Oh..azreno..etal
Igot ane-mail from Brenda today ...saying she'd been visiting and was back..and would have a new site up in the near future... with new brugs and her new breeding work.. it sounded like a streamlined focus.. but returning soon to the fray... she's doing well. it sounds.... so relax...
you'll hear of the site when it's up I'm sure... Gordon

Mesa, AZ(Zone 9b)

That's wonderful news, I'm so glad to hear it Gordon, thanks!

Brownstown, IN
