When should Passion Flowers Bloom ?

Fairmont, WV

I love my Passion flowers but they really bloom late in the year. Not usually til the end of August or first of Sept. I live in North Central West Virginia, Zone 6. I even dig them up and take them in for winter. They are beautiful vines, against the house growing up the down spout. I have a red one and a purple one. I WANT THEM TO BLOOM SOONER!!!

Unfortunately plants bloom when they're meant to bloom, and for at least some Passie's that's late summer/early fall. If you look through the entries in Plant Files there are some cultivars that are listed there as starting to bloom earlier in the year so maybe you should consider getting one of those instead (before you run out and buy anything though I'd do a little searching to make sure that the bloom time listed in PF is correct) http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/adv_search.php?searcher%5Bcommon%5D=&searcher%5Bfamily%5D=&searcher%5Bgenus%5D=passiflora&searcher%5Bspecies%5D=&searcher%5Bcultivar%5D=&searcher%5Bhybridizer%5D=&search_prefs%5Bblank_cultivar%5D=&search_prefs%5Bsort_by%5D=rating&images_prefs=both&Search=Search

lusarytole/ what is your zone? WV can be cold (esp Beckley!) in Tx the wild passflwrs bloom as soon as the wild blacberries r coming off ripe. Late May. That link ought to help a lot!

Ecrane is right, it all depends on the type of passion flower you have, the conditions they need and the temp they grow in, but you wont be able to change nature by that much as all plants have a flowering season and a dormant season and only by producing the warm conditions they are used to growing in where they naturally grow, will you be able to improve on what you have, I have to grow these plants all year as indoor plants but they still flower later in the season, it just means I dont loose them to the colder temps we have here in UK. good luck, just enjoy the short flowering times you have.
