Hey, I think one of those "dads" was a lady!
Osee comes inside
My sister is the skeptic.
She has always spoiled stories for me like that.
She's a writer and a stickler for detail.
Used to explaine how I got fooled. Love her anyway.
I wonder how the video got circulated.
Where are the two guys now.
Carrie - it just breaks my heart to see those magnificent animals in cages. There is a small zoo near where I grew up and I remember watching the wolves pace in the exact same figure eight for years! An eagle in a cage with one scrawny branch. Monkeys behind glass sitting and staring at the walls. I have very vivid and sad memories of that place.
I suppose zoos do some good for the animal community; research, education, encouraging reproduction of endangered species...
Its a big business just like everything else.
Developed duering the Victorian age when global exploration was big.
The movie "Greystoke " makes the point.Explorers came back with "world wonders" to show the public, how else would they get funding for another excursion.
I would not be surprised if Christian makes it to the big screen. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-452820/Christian-lion-lived-London-living-room.html
A pretty fascinating story. I didn't realize that it was George Adamson who facilitated Christian's return to the wild.
As for zoos, they have certainly evolved. I remember being at the Philadelphia zoo as a kid with my mom. There was a group of older kids taking a picture of a black panther with a flash camera. The cat was irritated by the flash so the kids just kept hitting the flash to keep the cat aggitated. I ended up in tears. I think it was my first encounter witnessing man's cruelty to animals.
Remember the three drunks who irritated the Tiger and he grabbed one and killed him?
I think the parents lost the law suit goooody.
Well guys, I am taking in a Russian Blue from NYACC who woud otherwise be euthanized, a kitten who turned out to be one too many for a family, and a snowshoe Siamese mix at the vetspital who would otherwise wind up outside as a barn cat again (assuming all his med labs come back okay). YIKES! Here's a photo of the kitten, Magick, who is coming in on the 20th, when his Auntie comes to visit her once-beagle. Keep your fingers crossed I don't go completely bonkers!
Good luck to you and Magick. Awesome eyes on that kitty. How many animals are in your keep??
venu: more than any sane person would normally have! lol - but that is what we do, Sanctuary...(I'm doing my best humpback ringing the bell imitation) :-)) The Russian blue arrived a couple of hours ago, I will let her settle in and then try to get a pic - she is very pretty..her name from the shelter is Smokey (dumb) but I think I may change it to Lady Grey. Whatd'ya'll think? I am taking suggestions!
I think Lady Jane Grey was one of the wives of Henry the VIIIth.
Well, not exactly:

I like Lady Grey better than Smokey. Speaking of Henry, I recently watched The Other Boleyn Girl (or Sister) A good watch. Worth the 5 bucks. Kudos to you Morrigan for going the extra mile to help the animals in need. I'm having a tough time incorporating one cat into the household!!
How about Cloudy since this is a gardening bunch?
It's early so my creative brain is a bit slow.
Funny, I was calling her Lady Jane Grey last night, but after reading that bio on Wiki, I think maybe another choice is in order. I am very supertitious about these things. Cloudy is good,....maybe something else along these lines...Stormy would be asking for trouble...I need more coffee maybe an I.V. today lol....she is a dark grey, Russian blue mix as it turns out, yellow eyes, only 13 months old, very sweet, dark bluish grey...keep these ideas coming guys, then she'll belong to ALL of us :-))
Come to think of it, her name was Smokey, and the reason she wound up at the shelter was her house burned down....
A name change is definatly in order.
ge: YEP! Got any more ideas????
Lady Jane had a reputation as one of the most learned women of her day, and the historical writer Alison Weir describes her as one of "the finest female minds of the century".
(from Wikipedia)
I'm still voting for Lady Jane Grey. She was unlucky, but she was a good egg. She was my kind of girl (she was a girl).
How about Shadsa as in shades of gray?
Well, we were trying out gardening related names last night, and we think we are going to try Willow. In Druidic practice, the Willow brings peace and serenity....poor little girl is too shell-shocked to answer to anything just yet, and she is still in a crate b/c she was spayed the day before arriving, I don't want her to bust out any sutures. She also has a wicked nasty URI, as always when coming from the City pounds. Once she is out and about, we'll get a better idea of her real personality...she seemed to like the sound of Willow last night when I tried it out...I agree about the Lady Jane Grey, BUT, sorry, Carrie, I am TOO stupidstitious about these things....:-O
Photo?? That should really help.
I will see if I can get one tonite, VIctor. She's a deep slate-grey with amber eyes, 13 mos. old. Her house burned down and she was facing euthanasia at the NYC shelter. They knew that I was enough of a sucker to say send her on!
Shadow?
Amber is nice!
How about Ember?
Victor ,they are discussing how far apart to plant stuff on the Garden Design Forum
I plant all my invasives at the property line.
I plant all my invasives on my neighbor's property line:)
me too.
Anthemis is spreading nicely.
Don't even care if the neighbor kids mow into it.
Nice shots, mo, though Willow doesn't look too happy. Mustn't like the name.^_^ Update on my Crash. Today he had an abdominal x-ray and sonogram. Still waiting final results tomorrow but they sis find his colon was really backed up. They gave him an enema and some fluids. I'm sure he did not feel like eating much with that going on. The sonogram showed some irregularity with one kidney. They took urine and will discuss the entire assortment of test results via tele-medicine with other vets. Sure hope that's all it was and maybe just a diet change is in order. Too many other tough things going on for me right now. My sister-in-law had a stroke on Sunday. She has made some progress but it's going to be a slow process. She is only 41.
Oh, Victor, I am so sorry. She's so YOUNG! I'll add her to my candle/prayers. What's her name?
As for Willow, she is fighting a wicked URI, and feels really lousy. PLUS, she is scared, her house burned, the shelter treated her rough and she was on the brink of being euth'd, then a long van ride to us! poor baby.
As for Crash, could be he was just really backed up with poop. Don't worry till there's really something to worry about. Who's your vet?
Next is Haru, Haiku's sister.
Thank you, mo. My SIL's name is Edie. Terrible what Willow had to endure and bless people like you who save them.
Thank you. Wow - how many cats do you have?
