I didn't think I could ever get these animals together but miracles do happen. Osee came inside with a bowl of milk for about fifteen minutes. Casey was very, very curious but did not show any aggression. She is the one I was worried about. I've seen her kill a chipmunk in less than 30 seconds. I think it was a checkmate situation, but Memory, you may not end up with another kitty in your lap
Osee comes inside
The standoff. Casey was so good. Whenever she got too close I told her no and she backed right off. I knew Osee would give Casey a swipe if push came to shove. The funniest thing is when I told my other half that I was going to take Osee to the shelter. He threw a fit. This is the man that swore he would leave the house if a cat ever moved in. Ha, you guys are soooo funny!!
Oh very cute Venu. Cats do have a way of getting to the one person they need to in order to make their life easier. Looks like a tense scene for a while, hope all works out for all concerned.
I hope it works out too!
Good luck, Weeze. Osee doesn't look too happy in those photos. Is he the one who bit you? I am adopting two brother kitties from my vet in a few weeks!
Good girl, Casey. Lucky little Osee is going to be so happy you saved him, specially when those cold winds start to blow again!!
You'll probably have them curled up together by then.
Glad this is looking good Louise!
Weeze, when you want him to vocalize, try singing, 'Osee, can you say...'
Victor - you are too funny! Best of luck with Ocee, I know it will work out. These animal meetings usually do, given time patience and love. Ocee can you say...I don't know what vault in your brain opens for these things, Victor, whichever one it is, keep 'em coming, you old rascal!
Victor, congratulations on the "twins"! (I have triplet girls.)
I think there will be a truce somewhere down the line. Ocee might take awhile to trust his new surroundings.
He seems content and world worn since the dog didn't intimidate him.
I think as long as the dog doesn't feel displaced and you love them equally everything will be alright.
I had a cat that came to me like that, we called him "freeloader"
Victor You will never regret the brothers. I have Ben and Jerry for 12 years couldn't live without them.
Kittins are tough for the first few months.

Osee came in again this morning for a bit with both dogs loose. He seems wary but I think he might have lived with dogs before since he doesn't totally freak out.
He fell asleep in my lap tonight outside on the front steps.
How much should I feed this guy? He's getting 3-4 large handfuls of kibble and a single serve container of Meow Mix wet food daily along with some assorted table scraps. He gobbles it up and looks for more.
Thanks, mo and Sue. I agree, Jo Anne. I had brothers but the younger one had to be put down a few years ago - was only seven years old. Sounds like he's right at home, Weeze!
Good luck on your new kittens Victor! Osee was very content until I started singing...
Hee hee. Thanks!
Ocee must be really hungry.
My cats get 1/2 cup IAMS in the morning and 1/2 cup late afternoon.Thats what IAMS recomends.
If Ocee keeps eating like the way he is he will get really fat as dry food is all carbohydrate.I also divide a can of Fancy Feast between three cats daily . If Ocee is still eating like this and not gaining weight, take him to a vet and check for parasites.Id wait a month to see how his appetite and weight goes the cat should weigh about 10 pounds.
He may have hunted for awhile and eaten a critter that was infected with worms or something that gets into ocees system and gets all the nutrition befor it gets into the cats system.
My tabby Jerry gets parasites in the spring when he eats babby bunnies and chipmonks.
Sounds like he is bonding and greatfull for a home and a meal.
you are a brave girl..... hope all goes well... and you can always send her up here to take care of my chipmunk overload
:)
Tapeworms come from fleas.

Easiest way I know of to check for fleas is to scratch near his tail. If you get little black "dirt" balls under your nails, that is flea debris. Casey won't appreciate that and you don't need to deal with a flea infestation in your house. It only takes two and this is the beginning of flea season. A good once a month spot-on treatment will kill all fleas in 24-48 hrs and continue to work for a month.
A vet visit is always a smart idea for a new fur child.
Oh yes - a vet visit is a must.
I agree with Victor - vet visit. Ocee may very well have intestinal parasites. Remember that the animal food companies put suggested servings on their label, but they are interested in ONE thing - selling more food. I would use a measuring cup, venu209, and offer him a full cup or offer him free feeding if he'll eat inside (don't want to do that outside, as you will attract all the freeloaders in the neighborhood). He looks like a big cat, and what with possible parasites and being active out-of-doors, he's burning mucho calories. He is beautiful! I have a very soft spot for orange tabbies and marmalade cats :-)
I'm with you Morrigan. Orange tabby was one of my all time loves. His name was Hairy.
Osee is a really beautiful cat I am jealous cause if he had shown up at my house he would be mine.
You'll need a cat carrier and a vet; I'm not sure Osee will let you pick him up and carry him yet! Unless you know a vet who makes house calls?
My mother lives on a bucolic dead end, but her happy outdoor cat rambled too far and got hit by a car. After that she got twin sister kittens, with the idea that they would play with each other and not wander so far. It worked, but they were the grouchiest, crabbiest two cats you'd ever meet. At one year old, they acted like those two old maiden ladies that live in the big scary house that you don't go to on Halloween! And they were just cats, for crying out loud!
Why did your brother have to be put down, Victor? At such and early age, too.
Julie
He had cancer.
Osee is already very happy to let me pick him up and seems very content to sleep in my lap. He only came in the house because I picked him up and brought him in on the counter. Casey did not jump up because I told her no. Dex did not jump up becasue one leg is missing. I didn't have to tell him no. But for the parasite check I will need a stool sample. So far I have no idea where he relieves himself.
Morri, I can't feed inside yet as the dogs go ballistic when I do a simple Pss, Psss Here Osee. I have gotten him to come on the front steps to eat. He devours it in a microsecond. No fear of attracting other animals. The dogs wag their tails when he's on the steps. They are so intigued by this animal that gets my attention.
GE, Orange tabbies were my least favorite. I have changed my mind !!! :)
Oh Victor, it breaks my heart to hear that. Because I'm selfish. I look at Dex and think, "you got a year Bud" I have to make it a very special year before he gets the pink needle of love. He is my good buddy, I will miss him.
Yes, that's the toughest part of having a pet. Now I'm concerned about Crash. He's been losing weight. So far all tests have been negative.
That's good though. As in everything is negative. I have learned some thing from my dog...I aspire to be him. And I may get there someday.
Victor - it could be that Crash is missing his brother. Animals show stress in different ways. I hope having the kittens around will cheer him up. Andrew and Ben both mope when they are separated - Ben more so because he wants to play all the time. (Andrew is my 3 yr old golden retreiver, Ben is my Mom's 15 month old golden).
Deb
True, but that's not the cause here. His brother is gone 3 1/2 years and this is a recent problem - over the past months. Thanks.
venu209 - I still trying to figure out how much to feed my new cat, Sam. I want him to eventually eat raw with my other cats, but he isn't very interested and seems to have problems chewing and swallows very hard. I know that he had a tooth romoved in the past or maybe the swallowing is part of the damage from his accident that left his paw paralyzed. I couldn't get a Saturday appointment with the vet I like until the end of the month. He WAS getting free feed treats and kibble and Fancy Feast. I'm trying to get rid of the kibble and treats are just that - treats and not food! I'm buying expensive, mostly meat canned foods for the transition, trying each kind to see what he will eat. (O how I hate those smelly, little cans filling the recycle bin!) He is a big cat (Maine Coon) but he only weighs 13.6 pounds and isn't too thin - at least I think so - we are trying two 6 oz cans a day and no kibble for starters. If he gains weight, I will back off the food. His biggest problem is an addicition to cat nip. He has to have it twice a day! LOL He got some explore time this weekend on the end of a leash and my hardwood floors are going to be a problem because he slips on the crippled paw! Sigh - I love my floors, too.
Cats you never know what they will do. If they are going to do it, they do it. They have a way to sneak right by you. Most cats are very independent. Our cat has got the corner molding with his toenails in 2 rooms. He has marked his territory, but he only does it when a stray cat or dog comes in the yard. Another thing he does is if you bring in a cardboard box. I guess he is attracted to them.
venue: For s stool sample, let the vet take one directly, OR, he can spend the day at the vet, and they will isolate him with a littebox. OR, they can deworm him prophylactically. You might also want to have him tested for FIV/FeLV, two common itty diseases, FIV is NOT a death sentence, and FeLV usually i.
Victor: It has been my experience with tests being neg. all the time, the the guardian knows their dog best -has e had xrays of his chest? Has his prostate been checked, and has he been tested for his thyroid? What other symptoms is he exhibiting? Unfrotunately, I hav been thrugh too many animals that wer all neg, neg, neg ho wound haeing the C word after all, and I had to practically jump up and down o get them to listen to me!
The cat has not had too many other symptoms - only occasional vomiting. Thyroid is one of the blood tests. One came back negative. Another, more in-depth one is still out. No x-rays yet.
Are the new kittens any particular breed, Victor? The boys must be very excited and looking forward to the additions.
Not sure, Nance. Just know they are orange or cinnamon colored. Yes, they are (and so am I!).
I'm excited for you too Victor!!! My kittens are so big already.
Good luck with Osee, Louise. How'd you come up with that name?
Crash looks like one cool cat, Victor.
Thanks, Candyce - he is.
Victor we have a grey cat- female Angel, looks just like Crash with beautiful green eyes.
Louise- I loved this thread. Animal lovers like a good story with a happy ending.
Don't stop the posting of Osee's progress and adventures with your dogs.
