I have had this Hoya for 3 years. It is inside beside a west window. It is really healthy and doing great, just no blooms yet. I have been feeding it with Miracle Grow Bloom all summer, but still nothing. What am I doing wrong???

Wow! That is a Gorgeous Hoya! You aren't doing anything wrong ... looks like you are doing absolutely everything right! That looks to be a very happy, healthy plant!

I have learned that Hoya's sometimes have minds of their own and bloom when they are ready! Some are slower than others. In my experience with my hoya's, they seem to prefer to be rootbound before they will bloom.

Your pot looks to be quite large for a so it may take awhile before you see the bloom spurs and buds, it could be working on filling the pots with roots rather than putting it's energy into blooms.

I'm not certain but your plant may be this one: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/57703/

Great Growing!

If it needs to be root bound that might take a while. As you can see it is in a really large pot. of course that pot is not full of dirt. There is a 5 gal. bucket down inside that pot. There are 2 Hoyas and a Philodendron and that tall thing in the middle. But yes it is doing quite well. Just not blooming!!!

LOL, the tall plant in the middle is Dracaena marginata: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/732/

I've never seen hoya's in a mixed container planting like that ... very pretty and since it is doing so well I'm sure it is okay to leave them all together.

From the looks of the size of that pot it might be many, many years before you see blooms on your hoya! That is one huge pot! Even with a 5 gal bucket down inside it, there's still an awful lot of space that those roots have to fill ... But, it sure makes a statement planted like that!

edited to say: I see you are not a paid subscriber so you cannot access the hoya forum. I will go over to that forum and post a link back here to see if some of the hoya experts can take a look and give you some advice/info regarding blooms on your plant.

That's a very lovely and healthy plant LT; its a hoya carnosa 'Tricolor' aka Krimson Queen. And it will not bloom until it is rootbound. I had a friend who started some green carnosa cuttings in a very large pot despite my scolding. Otherwise, its growing conditions were optimal, and it took eight years for it to start blooming. Krimson Queen, being a variegated hoya, may take longer still to bloom. So, the only thing that's "wrong" is the size of the pot. It'll bloom, just not soon, so you just have to be patient.

I love these plants in this big pot, so I just might cut a few pieces off the hoya and pot them in a smaller pot so I can get some blooms. They do make a statement and everyone loves them. That pot weights about 90 lbs without the plants. I found it a few years ago on sale. It was a $200.00 pot and it was on sale for $40.00. I wish I had gotten two!!!
Thanks for checking the other site for me!!!

I suggest you NOT cut any vines off....that is where the blooms will come from. Also suggest you grow it dry...it likes dry as it won't hurt the dracaena....and I would stop feeding it. Miracle Gro is about GROWING and it is good. Water it only when really really dry....and....all the carnosas really appreciate cooler more than warmer temps....

I have been watering it with Miracle Grow Bloom, not just the regular Miracle Grow.

OK...I would stop fertilizing it completely....Just water it when it gets bone dry....

Ooo, bloom booster ... I never ever use it ... hoyas normally don't need chemical encouragement to bloom, just the right growing conditions - lots of light, airy potting medium, 'tight shoes' (being potbound). In my humble opinion that is. After a couple of months to wash out what's in the pot, get a more balanced fertilizer and mix it extremely dilute and use it regularly with each watering. Even then give it a break from the fertilizer every couple of months for two to three waterings. MG leaves lots of salts behind.

My friend move 1.5 years ago and left her Hoya with me. I didnt even know it was suppose to bloom. I guess I will just have to wait and wait and see what happens.
