Bloody Sorrel / Rumex sanguineus

Fairmont, WV

How do I propagate a Bloody Sorrel? I looked it up and it says by seed or division. I live in Zone 6 and the tag says zone 5. If I mulch in fall really good do you think it will come back. I didn't think this plant flowered so how would I get seed?? I really love it, can it be taken in for the winter. Although I don't know where I will winter another plant!!! LOL

To divide it,you would dig up the plant and divide the roots and crowns into more than 1 section. You can order seed from many seed companies.Zone 6 is about 10 degrees warmer than zone 5,so it should be winter hardy without mulch.

I planted some bloody dock seed near my birdbath in the spring of 2007 and they came up this year. They tend to like a little shade. These have spread by themselves and there are babies everywhere. I'm not sure if they are from the same family, I'll dig up a pic.
