I live in Louisville, KY and my front bed has liriope in it. I hate it because it is so invasive it is taking over everything. I've tried removing parts of it, but it comes back with a vengeance. I have decided to dig it all up but I don't know what might be a nice alternative. The bed is a mix of sun and shade and there is also a large rose bush, a mini spirea and a small holly. The bed was planted before we moved in. Thank you very much for any suggestions.
liriope alternative
Maybe some iris or daylilies? When they aren't blooming, the foliage is very nice.
If you still want to have a ground cover style in that bed, you could try pachysandras, which stay evergreen as well. I like ajuga as a ground cover also. I don't know if it is cold enough where you are to die back in the winter. If not, it might continue looking pretty.
Good luck!
how tall a cover do you want?
