Musa pups

Valsolda, Italy(Zone 9b)

I have some pups from my Musa. They had grown to about 20cm before I cut them off the mother plant. The pup had still not developed roots. Is there a way I can save it?

The ideal thing to do is detach them with roots.Since they are already separated from the main plant,I would plant them individually in a mixture of perlite and peat moss. You will need to keep the humidity high while they are rooting, tenting them with plastic if necessary. This is my suggestion. The info below is from a website about banana care.
To transplant larger suckers, cut off all but six of the large green leaves and plant in a large hole using good organic compost or a sand-peat mixture. If you cut off more, you risk the plant not being able to absorb enough moisture, oxygen and nutrients to produce food properly.

I have never been able to get roots to grow on a "baby" when I severed it without roots from the mother plant. I'm curious to see if you are able to. Usually, before long, another one will grow and you will have the opportunity to try again with more roots this time. It's better to cut closer to the mother and take more from that plant, since it's already established and able to recover pretty quickly. I've been growing them for years, and it still gives me an anxiety attack when I have to slice down between the 2 plants.

Hello!
I have another pup on my plant. How big should it be when it has roots?

Saint Louis, MO

About 18 inches minimum.

I have put the pup I already cut off in a tray of water and covered it with a plastic bag. The tips of the leaves are going black. Is this usual?

I would not try to root them in water.Put them on a damp tray of perlite and peat or sand and peat. When you are rooting things in water covering them with plastic will rot the plant.
