I have this hosta around a pecan tree. This one looks fine,but others in the same bed,do not. What problem do you think I have?

This is anogther type I have in the same bed. It doesn'gt look as good.

Your first hosta looks like it might have not gotten enough water or maybe too much sun. I am not sure how much shade a pecan tree gives. Hostas grow best in an exposure with morning sun and afternoon shade. Some cultivars will tolerate some afternoon sun, although plants grown in full afternoon sun (especially variegated plants) will show signs of marginal burning on leaves in the summer months. They need a minimum of one inch of water a week. If they are grown in sandy soil, they may need even more water because of the good drainage. Also, with the tree roots there, they will need more water. When watering make sure you get the ground and not the plant, or the water won’t reach the roots as easily. If it’s not the water or sun, have you fertilized the tree or the plants lately? It could be fertilizer burn.

Thanks guys. I probably need to pay attention to all of those suggestions. They have been so easy to ignore these few years,they are probably trying to get my attention.
