Why'd my squash survive the squash bugs?!

Clarkson, KY

Yippeee!! For the first time in 4 seasons my squash has lived through most of July! Courtesy of DG and many thanks to a favorite Guru, FarmerDill, they seem to have survived the squash bug infestation that killed every previous patch. A younger more innocent me is there thinking I can get my veggies to live next time if I'm a really good girl and repeat what I did this year. -Won't tell you what the jaded older version said...

Now I'm wondering what if anything I did right :) I haven't killed them all; I didn't use Sevin or Neem oil. I missed a couple hatches of nymphs. (The last two patches I had died within about two days of the first hatching: yellow, wilt, die, then on to the next plant. Repeat.) According to the UKy site I found -and FarmerDill linked so I MUST be on the right track - they should have yellowed and died right on schedule.

They are greening up, perking up, and starting to produce again!! And I would love to know what went right so I can keep doing it... Was it a miraculous combination of horse poo and Dawn Dish Soap? Was it the frantic leaf pinching and nymph squashing with a dash of expletive for good measure? Has anyone heard of plants recovering? Any input would be welcome...

I feel like Hastur with the "I have GREEN" - I've still got it, Baby!!

*snicker* Feels amazing, doesn't it?

Perhaps it was a combination of all of the above? Plants, like people, have amazing powers of recovery if you give them a chance, and it sounds like you did everything you could to give them a good chance to recover and thrive. Well done!

Way to go! I lost one of my zucchini for some unknown reason, the other starting to shows signs of distress. Apparrently only have one yellow squash this year. Been really lucky, no squash bugs!
