July Blooms, part IV

(Zone 1)

Syru: What a shame you missed her. You should have made a sign with huge letter's "GESSIEGAIL?" I know she would have gotten a kick out of that ... I can hear her laughing right now. I do hope that some day a bunch of us can meet in person, I just think we'd all have such a blast!

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

I know she'll need to come back for checkups, so there is always next visit!

(Zone 1)

Yep, she will have to probably go back 1 week for a post op checkup. I hope you do get a chance to meet. How far is San Antonio from Corpus? I hope she didn't have to drive too far to go to the oral surgeon.

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

Hi All,
Have not been here in a few days and just to let you all know it is going to get really crazy here in the next two weeks... As most of you know my last son Mike is getting out of college as a matter of fact today is his lastday and he starts his new job on August 4, With moving him up to Richmond and his nervousness about school and moving away has been allot ...LOL Mom (me) is needing a vacation from all this....
I hope everyone has been well and hope to be around at least one day this weekend.... I miss you all very much.
Hugs,
Susan

Lilburn, GA

LOL!!! Oh yeah, a big Gessiegail sign just like they use in airport arrivals!

Susan, i hope everything goes well with your son and that you can have a rest and relax soon.:o)

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

I will miss him big time as he is the baby and the only one of 4 sons that is really moving away... It is only 3 hours so that is not so bad... I thought it was 2 but it is not... I will miss him like I said but I will also be glad when this is all over and I can have some calm and relax on my days off instead of wondering what we will be doing this day...LOL
Spider I don't believe we've met? Hello and welcome ... You may have been here before and I just did not notice... I am brain dead....LOL
Hugs,
Susan

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

It's about a 2 hour drive, give or take. She's staying at a hotel close to the dentist building . . .

You know, with my luck, I'd be there decked out at the door to the building, and she'd go in the other entrance!

Susan, I hope you get to relax pretty soon!

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

Where is Gail? I have missed allot will have to go back and read up on what I missed....
Hugs,
Susan

Susan,

I used to come to the "old" AV forum. I stopped at the start of 2007.

Are you a new member?

(Zone 1)

Susan: Glad you got your youngest all settled in Richmond. I know he will miss his Mom as much as you miss him! This is a stressful time for you but a very exciting time for him, I'm sure!
I hope things settle down and you are able to relax real soon!

I knew about Gail having the oral surgery but I didn't know she was staying in a hotel in San Antonio! I hope she has someone there to be with her. Keep us posted if you hear anything from her.

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

Hi,
I forgot about Gail's oral surgery... I can feel for her as I had pins put in over a year ago and things did not go right... one fell out then one of the others started to hurt like a very bad tooth ache... So they took them out...
Spider I will be on here now for 2 years this coming Nov.... I still fell like a newbie...LOL I came to the AV forum to just play bingo as I don't really like AV's and they hate me... I do have a few still alive that some very nice people sent me to me, but then I found streps and I am in heaven...LOL They like me and I love them... I also have some episcia's doing really great and also some Kohleria’s that seem to like me also... So thats my story...LOL
My son Mike is going to live up in Richmond not this weekend but the next and that one is for good... We are suppose to go up there with him this weekend as his furniture is going to be delivered on Sat... I am not sure if I am going as my body is killing me and a 3 hour drive won't do it any good.. So we will see... He did get himself a kitty to take up with him so when he comes home from work he is not alone.... I am sorry to see him go but can't wait until all this is over...LOL....
Hugs,
Susan

She wasn't originally planning on staying, I think. She was going to have someone drive her up, wait, then drive her back down . . . I think the weather changed her mind at the last minute.

Gail left the potting mix she picked up for me at her hotel. I went and picked it up during lunch . . . and guess what kind of bag it was in?!?!?

(it WAS the H.E.B. bag!!!)

South, TX

I think they are 4 inches. Maybe 3 1/2. I think I have both. Wish they could be a little bigger.

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

Thanks Sally..I know what you mean..looking at the size of those plants that size pot sounds so small..lol.. but yet they are the recommended size..hope you do decide to show someday..your plants are definitely show quality : )
Syru..that just tickles me to no end I can imagine how you felt once you realized it was gail : )

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

cedarnest . . . that just gets me!!! I told you guys I should have asked! When I saw the HEB bag at the hotel, I just knew it! Gail sent a message letting me know she made it home, and I asked her . . . were you wearing a red shirt yesterday, and she replied YES!!!! Oi!!

Sally . . . I have just GOT to get myself some black velvet !!! My pix would look so much nicer! Yours are beautiful!! I really like your Fisherman's Paradise!!

South, TX

Yes, the velvet is great. Mine is not the super expensive kind. Just very close. I can wash it. Just look around for something that absorbs the light. I have used lots of backgrounds. Here is another.

Just popping in for a minute. We're on the way out the door, but I'm so tickled with this AV that I wanted to show a picture of it. I sure hope to have more time to be on DG soon. I miss all of you so much! Edited to add: Big hugs to you all!!!

A closeup of an AV Shoshone bloom. It's just so gorgeous!

And Sinn Purple Crest finally bloomed for me. It's very pretty. Ignore the dog hair... LOL

Hi Rain and everyone! I can't believe you are still nursing that Shoshone and she still looks magnificent!

Thanks everyone for caring about me! I feel like you all are best friends and you are! I am doing great. The only place still bothering me is where he did so much bone grafting. Maybe I really will have nice teeth in a few months.......well worth the effort.

I am actually happy to have the excuse that I can't go anywhere........will give me two months to work on plants.....joy joy joy!
gail

LOL Gail! You just knew I'd kill Shoshone, didn't you? The self-watering pot seems to be the key for me. That is the only AV that has even attempted to stay so healthy with me! ^_^ I'll have to get more self-watering pots. I do have an AV growing semi-hydro in very small lava rocks. It's doing well, too, but much younger than Shoshone, so no blooms yet, though I do think I see teeny tiny starts of buds.

Take care of yourself and be sure to drink enough nutritious stuff so your body can heal itself. You'll have a million plants soon, with all the propagating time you've got on your hands now! LOL

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Do you want anymore avs???????? (LOL) I know the answer already!

South, TX

I have a Shoshone too. I think it is from the sale, your's Gail? It is a great plant. Does well for me. Love the color of the deep green leaves and the red blooms. Your plant is very nice Rain!

South, TX

I just took this photo this morning before going on errands with Fred. We went to Marjorie's and bought the Growing to Show book, then Lowe's, then ate at Catfish Charlie's. Then good ole HEB.

This is a new one of my Ember Lace. Two pretty pink blooms.

Wath is HEB?

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

HEB is a grocery store here in Texas ^_^

Lilburn, GA

Thank you Syru! I was guessing it would be a garden center!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Hello, were you able to find that hotel, Nichole? (to get your soil). I soooooooo wish you had hollered at me and screamed, ''Gail, is that you?"............

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

I went yesterday during my lunch break, Gail. That's a nice looking place on the inside! As luck would have it, we have an empty kitty litter container that I haven't planted anything in yet, so I'm in the process of spray painting it (got the plastic paint, might as well use it!) before I keep the soil in it. Should be nice and airtight, to prevent ants getting into it.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

That little hotel sitting there off the road was really clean and nice........even had white bed comforters and cotton linens on the bed. I was shocked.......Think I will make that motel my home away from home when I go to the dentist from now on. I just happened onto it looking for a place at 8:30 at night.........

Glad you got your soil. I love those kitty litter containers and use them for watering my plants all the time. (easier than carrying a gallon around the house). I am verrrrrry excited about the morning glory seeds you had for me. This morning glory addiction is coming on big time. As soon as I feel a bit better I am going to start a lot of new MG seeds for a blaze of color in the fall.

Here are my first two seeds I collected this morning. I took them out of a plastic bag and put them in envelopes with the right names..I got more than these but I have to show you my very first two seeds. Wish I knew how to pollinate them.........been studying the stickys on the MG forum..

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

As far as morning glories go (for me), I have great little pollinators . . . ants! They crawl in one flower, climb up the vine, crawl in another flower, and so on, etc. Hand pollination is real easy . . . once you find the technique that works for you. Are these seeds from the Purple Picotee or Kaine's Special?

I did what you suggested in a dmail - I went to Home Depot and got one of those 48"x22" light grid things . . . $11 . . . looks like I'll be able to make 4 full size 10x20, and maybe a few small odd size ones. Once I get DD into bed (soon, I hope!), I'll finish cutting, and get at least one official wicking tray done!
