The Latin name for mine is Abelmoschus esculentus, but that will not be what your seeds are.
Everybody is always saying the buds look like okra, so that is what I posted, just joking around That type of okra is also known as Clemson's Spineless. The hibiscus, rose of sharon and okra are all closely related and their flowers look similar. Maybe you can ask whoever sent them to you what they are or check the plant files for hibiscus or mallow. Unless they are a real real hardy variety I don't think they would overwinter outside for you, but I have overwintered hibiscus before inside and got blooms during the winter.

I wish you were here and we would get in that water. I get in trouble all the time for working in the garden and taking a flying leap in there just to cool off. DH says all the sweat, excuse me, "glistening" and dirt is not good for it. But that has not stopped me so far.

Easy Coffee Cake
1 cup butter room temp
2 cup sugar
3 cup sifted flour (self rising)
1 cup milk
4 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
Beat sugar and butter together until fluffy..add eggs 1 at a time to incorporate mix in vanilla..alternately add flour and milk begining
and ending with flour.pour into oiled and floured tube pan. Sprinkle on topping. Bake at 325 about 50 to 60 mins..... or until a pick
comes out clean. Topping ...1/2 cup sugar..1/4 cup flour..2 tablespoons butter 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon stir to mix until crumbly. for the glaze mix a little powdered sugar wth milk or water drizzle over cake : )

I'm also one who cooks almost every night so I am always looking for new recipes... yes, I haunt the recipe forum, too. During football season, I also cater for tailgating a little.. gumbo, chili, chicken tortillas and stew, but I finally backed off and will only do it every other weekend now, it gets hectic after awhile and I've done it about 15 years, so I don't see quitting that soon. Unless I get too busy with DG! I already had a call last week wanting to schedule...I cannot believe how fast this summer is going by...

I guess you could say I'm in between Detroit and Toledo Ohio. Not far from either. Very close to Lake Erie. Living in cold Michigan yes I do have to bring my Brug's in for the winter. However last year I didnt have all that many and guess I got a little crazy shopping this past winter so I'm not sure where I'm going to put them all this winter. Babeko!!..I am finally rested after going to Randy's Gathering at his home..I was able to visit Zone 9 Tropicals while we were there. And of course, I bought lots of new gingers I didn't have...I am waiting for the sun to come up so I can go check on my plants here for new flowerblooms or buds...will post pics if I do..
Anjl, feel better soon! I tend to stay out in the heat too long too. Becky sent me new brug seeds from her new crosses, and I am not sure if I should start them now or wait until late winter. What do the hotties think? At least my babies now have some size on them for overwintering. Geez the skeeters are fierce this year. So much rain, the little needle noses are everywhere. It really feels tropical here in Nebraska!

Moodene, my brug came in all beaten up, wilted, and no leaves on it at all. I have her potted up, and will keep a close eye on it.

Anjl, you need to be careful from now on, with heat! I had one years ago, and I don't tolerate heat at all, any more! Stay inside during the middle of the day!! That's an order!!

Stacey you are smart about not wanting to lug thing's in and out. It's a big chore!! I do have several houseplant's that I bring out in the summer and that's alot of work. Actually I just started bringing my houseplant's outside last summer. Wow what a difference it made! I seen thing's grow that just sat there for a long time in the house. My Sweetie brought me 2 5 gal. buckets last night. He gets them where he works, they just throw them away! And I have some bags coming from the coop. That should be enough for me!!
Creamsickle - starting to color up. Notice the slight peach tone that is coming in.
Tiara - the blooms don't has as nice a shape as Creamsickle's.

Momma is no better, but at least they are routinely giving her the pain meds.. which makes her a lil sleepy. If they will leave her in the bed for a few days.. maybe she will get over this..
