infested with aphids or mealybugs-what do?

Asheville, NC

All of my tomato plants are infested with little white things and I assume they are either early stage aphids or mealybugs. They don't seem to hop or fly off if disturbed. They are on the tomatoes themselves, upper and lower leaves, and stems. I sprayed with Safer's insect killing soap a few days ago. Even worse infestation today so I sprayed again as thoroughly as possible. Any other suggestions, please? thanks.

use your hose and spray the water forcefully as you can without damaging the plants where they are.
Then go back and spray with the safer soap - or you could try dish soap mixed with water (just dont apply when there is direst sun on your plants)
goodluck!

A good hard spray of water definitely will help. Make sure when you are spraying with the soap that you drench the whole plant. I used dish soap (not detergent) mixed with water, which also works. But you may have to do it several times. I think last year I had to do it three or four times, a couple of days apart, and this was when they were only on two plants.

Don't forget the ladybugs. They'll eat the aphids like crazy if you bring some into the garden. I'm not sure if you would get them in time by ordering on line, but you can always check.
