Uh oh - just received my Fairweather Gardens fall catalog. I'm praying for restraint...
Have they got you with any of the summer sales?
don't know that one Victor
Congrats to anyone able to hold off on the end of summer sales - i have not been so lucky - last night i bought a korean spice vibrumun and a blue spruce mound at 50% off - both pretty large. And then i read my personal email - sooner farms is not having a sale and STILL took my money -hearts of gold redbud to add to my redbud collection - this is my 6th variety and 11th redbud. and i also got a kaleidoscope abelia.
now comes the difficult decision of where the heck they get planted and i still have been staring at the satomi dw that needs a home.
this is it for the purchases??????????????????????
Fairweather fall catalog looks great! (Hee hee) By thew way, there will be a new variety of Hydrangea arborescens next year called Incrediball. It has the huge blooms (12") of Annabelle but has much stronger stems so it is supposed to be less floppy.
incrediball? reminds me of where i brew beer called incredibrew. nice name - maybe they will think of a more enticing name by release. and your letting me know so i save space? one less floppy would be nice - i think they should call it Seealice.
Cute one! Of course, if it remains un-flopped for more than four hours, please call an emergency horticulturist.
we can end with that. LOL
what about the fall sales??
got me today - i have a little kim lilac, 3 woodland pl-ox, heartland brunnera, two campanula wedding bells, drumstick primrose, and reg. primrose. all at 70% off.
Oh yeah ... we must speak of the Fall Sales as well!
went back an got another little kim, brunnera, and a yellow bleeding heart - never knew there were yellow BH's
I'd like a yellow bleeding heart too!!
Need any Echinacea,Campanula, or Heuchera ect... for next spring? You oder now, it's delivered in the spring. I wasn't going to but then I saw Echinacea 'Tomato Soup'!! I ordered 3 and 2 'Fragrant Angel' to go with it and a Euphorbia 'First Blush'. Oh and this lovely burgundy fern.

Oh, lots of varieties of Echinacea!!
Just succumbed to a 50% off sale for a Silver Sword Azalea, two Thalictrums (thalictra?) and an Amsonia. Dithered for 5 minutes over a cute curly 'Spiralter Falcona' Cryptomeria, but finally decided it was too much for the credit card despite the sign over the checkout counter: "Your wife called and said to get anything you wanted!"
Hi Don. Nice pickup. I bought that Cryptomeria this past spring. It's very nice.
I may go back and get it. It keeps calling, calling, ....
They have a sign like that at the nursery near here, "your husband called and said to get whatever you want." Of course I never go there because I know if I did get whatever I wanted, I'd be in all kinds of trouble.
Hi guys good morning! I caved after being good even though a certain member cough (Chuck) ;) was tempting me a while back by telling me about the local sales.
I found 2 Oak Leave Hydrangeas at home depot for 25% off and in good shape. The tag says they are supposed to be planted in the sun but I am sure I have read here that the do better with some shade. Anyway I love them and my DH actually said he liked them too. Maybe I can get him to agree to let me pick up the other 2 I saw too. :)
We just had our property lines done and it ends up I have a lot more land than we originally thought we had. So looks like I have room for a few more beds for the plants I WS this year.
What a great 'find'!!
Wow, what a surprise!!! Congrats on the OLH. Mine sends off suckers. So, if by chance you don't get the other two, the ones you got will probably reward you with some new ones.
Wow - great buy on the hydrangeas but even better break on the land! Wish I could find that. The oakleaf prefers part shade but I have mine in full sun now (after tree removal) and they are doing fine. You just need to watch the watering.
Thanks guys. And thanks for the advice Victor. I did manage to make it back to get 2 more haven't told DH yet though. One of the perks to having a lot of land I can hide things easier ;). I will tell him though about these since he liked the other ones.
One more trip up to the family owned nursery up the road tomorrow to see their clearane sale tomorrow to see what they have and then I will be good until the trees go up to 50% off. I so want a Japanese Maple from HD but 25% doesn't put much of a dent in trees that are $140+ dollars each.
*sigh*
I just got an email from Park Seeds entitled ... "Easy, Water-Wise Cottage Gardens - plus 3 Daylilies FREE".
I am a sucker for DL, and the word 'free' gets me every time.
Melly - I have my oakleafs in quite a bit of shade and they are doing great. I had some nice blooms this year - maybe not as profuse as they would get in more sun, but I'm happy. Just thought I'd report on my experience since it sounded like you were going to be putting yours in shade.
Christina,
Thank you very much! I put two out in part sun and the other two in a mostly shady area. They were looking droopy for the past few days and finally perked up today. I usually dont buy from my local Home Depot since they dont take very good care of their plants but couldnt resist these. Still keeping an eye out for japanese maples on sale!
Melissa
When mine were in the shade of my maple, they did okay and bloomed a decent amount. Since they are in sun, they have grown tremendously and bloom lots more. But you really do have to supplement the water if you're not getting lots of rain.
i just planted three oak leafs from HD and they are in full sun. they are in a rain run off plane off my driveway and will stay plenty wet i hope.
just got my order from sooner plant farm - all nice healthy trees - sourwood looks pretty good right now. and more importantly i know were they will be planted next spring. all will be over wintered in large containers that i "plant" in the ground.
