Have they got you with any of the summer sales?

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Well I just caved into an email from GC. You know one of those look what is back in stock announcements. Okay so I requested to know about the echie 'Twilight' and ordered three of those. I am trying again to get them through the winter here. But then while going to order them, way up in the rt. corner was a a new plant. An interesting deer resistant shrub. This alone makes it a winner here. With red flowers that the hummers like. Lime foliage that goes to a buttery yellow in the heat of summer. Can you say impulse buy! Anyone have this? Do you like it? It is a sickness. http://www.gardencrossings.com/index.cfm/fuseaction/plants.plantDetail/plant_id/998/index.htm

Tough to resist, isn't it? I'm done though, until fall ordering. Way too hot now.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Already placed my order with brent & beckys and took 15% off back in May. I wont buy anything now in this 'drought', waiting for Fall.

- Nice light colored shrub, gives good contrast! ☺

Marlborough, MA(Zone 5b)

Oh tell me about the sales!
A local garden center that Kassia, Mellimass and I go to was having a 25% of all plants.
So Marilyn and I went over, just to look. Ya right.
Then Mellimass was kind enough to tell me that the sale was now 50% off all plants.
So my honey and I went back, JUST TO LOOK!
Ya right, again.
Thankfully they should be closed by the next paycheck, I HOPE!
Chuck

Oh, you're BAD, now you've got me started shopping when I'm supposed to be doing something entirely different.

South Coast, RI(Zone 6b)

I have to drive fast by the garden centers, not allowed in HD, WM is okay because their plants are all dieing. Haven’t been buying veggies at the plant and veggie farm because I’ll come out with more plants than food. I’ve been avoiding the internet ads, keep telling myself (you can’t swing that pick ax yet). Then I found the Burg co-op here, oh well so much for not buying anymore plants. Just what I needed, now I have to get more lg. pots and a trunk load of MG potting soil. Still wearing the back brace so it’s easy to get the lazy GC clerks in WM to load it.

I cant go to HD anymore either. Well not knowingly. They arent watering any more! I have been going in to look at the columbines. Ok I have bought 5 now. They were at 2.99 and was 7 something BUT I am taking a chance. Now all the Asiatic lillys are in bloom...too much money............tick tock the wicked plant will shed.

Metrowest, MA(Zone 6a)

Lol Chuck you can't blame me!! ;) I also caved and went back to Rivers Edge and got a great deal on some plants. I have been so good this season thanks to WS it was only my second time going there. I so love that place what a great selection they have even when their stuff is reduced. Sigh... At least you and Marilyn both love gardening. I had to confess my latest purchases to DH before he spotted them. I cant wait until my gardens are big enough to hide new plants lol.

Also wanted to mention that the HD here is the same about not watering their plants even early in the season. Not even a temptation for me to go there.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Done all the plant shopping for this year. B&D Snowey Creek,Brent and Becks and John Scheepers orders will come a month after my foot surgery so I can put bulbs in the ground.
NO more perennials Robindog is coming mid Aug. Those are the last plants for me,plus gardener neighbor is doing some digging for me in the fall.

Essex Junction, VT(Zone 4a)

There's a somewhat local place that is having a 40% off shrubs and 30% off perennials with their online coupon. I had to remove the beautiful nepeta from the front because some new neighborhood cats decided to roll around in them...while my indoor cat watches from the window. Not good.

So I ripped them out and now the front is pathetic looking. It has made me want to start the next front yard (and back) landscaping phase, so this sale is really calling me! It is a drive, but if I'm buying multiple shrubs, I should still save even if I have to fill up the tank. I figure now would be better than fall for the plants (so they aren't more root bound).

at least that is what I keep telling myself :)

Brooksville, FL(Zone 9a)

Yall are too funny, you need to come over to http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/859535/ as we all are in the program....rofl

I called my co-worker and she was able to cover for me this afternoon, so I took a drive down to Bristol to Rocky Dale for their July sale. Man, I could spend a fortune there. I don't have anywhere to put all their dwarf conifers, but it doesn't mean I don't want them :)

I mainly got shrubs, 5 for the front (dogwoods: 3 arctic fire, 2 arctic sun) and 1 for the back (a green elderberry). I also did get 1 dwarf conifer because it was so awesome (an unusual shaped dwarf white pine).

Time to get back to work (boo!).

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

You're on DG when you should be at work? Of course!!!

Essex Junction, VT(Zone 4a)

Well, I telecommute and do all my work online. So I can have work open and DG open at the same time! dangerous, eh?? luckily work has been slow so I can plan all my new garden beds :)

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

LOL LOL very dangerous. You can spend money before you make it!

Essex Junction, VT(Zone 4a)

Ha! I never thought of it like that. Man, too true.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Me, I spend money we don't have any HOPE of ever having! Although, DH's student loan came through today, almost $4000! Now of course, that's to pay for books and parking and gas and food and car ins and stuff until Dec, but pro-rated . . . a little expenditure on the titular head of household. . . . I don't get any new books or new parking permits or fancy new course catalogs!

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

I'm glad I'm not the only one that has little willpower.
I must say that Garden Crossing never ceases to impress me. Their order that started this thread arrived today. Big healthy plants in outstanding and easy to remove packaging, not dried out or damaged in any way. If you are going to spend bucks on mail order you want to get results like this every time and from them I do. Big kudos to them.

No surprise there. They have been on my 'gold' list for some time. At last check, I had ordered from them over 25 times!

New Hampshire, NH(Zone 5b)

ngam - you're very bad to post that picture....

now I must go look up Garden Crossing. That's one I've never received a catalog on - amazingly since I think I receive every other catalog possible

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

No print catalog - just check out the website:

http://www.gardencrossings.com/index.cfm?

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

NEVER???? This could be the beginning of a beautiful relationship!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

just posted on the what sis you buy thread and saw this thread - i got caught by a 25% off sale for a golden shadows pagoda dogwood. $15 not complaining. Trouble is there is another 7/10th's of a mile from my home that posted 35% sale. i will walk through - think i'm safe - i checked them earlier in the season and did not see anything i wanted.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

No they don't have a catalog as Victor said. The website is tempting enough. I always check them first if there is something I want, I mean absolutely need. :) Have fun browsing!

Metrowest, MA(Zone 6a)

Lol Bill... I am seriously losing it.. I misread what you said and thought I saw that you were going to walk to the nursery near you so you are less tempted to buy. I was thinking what a great idea was IF I had a garden center within walking distance. Sheesh I need some serious help! You guys are BAD influences.

Essex Junction, VT(Zone 4a)

That Garden Crossings is dangerous. MI even. I was even hesitant to buy from Bluestone given they are in OH. I hear a lot up here about the importance of buying plants that "grew up" in the cold so they aren't shocked by our winters :) So MI should be fine. I'll add this one to the list.

Oooh! They have a plant combinations for planters? Man, I need to remember that for next year!!

It is a good thing I can only plant by way of ripping up grass. And I hate ripping up grass. So it keeps me from going hog wild. Though I'm going to start experimenting with newspaper on top of the grass and then mulch. If that works, then I will probably "have a problem" :)

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

You'll have a problem . . . .

New Hampshire, NH(Zone 5b)

evie - yes, you will definitely have a problem. I will never rip up grass again...

Craryville, NY

Hi, I'm Morrigan and I am a plant-a-holic.

(hi, morrigan)

I'd like to report that today I did not buy a single plant. yet.

:-)

New Hampshire, NH(Zone 5b)

Hi, I'm Christina and I'm a plant-a-holic too. Thanks to my enabling friends here on DG, I've just become very well-aquainted with Garden Crossings.

Clematis 'Marie Louise Jensen'
Clematis 'Claire de Lune'
Clematis 'Crystal Fountain'
Clematis 'Nelly Moser'
Clematis 'Roguchi'
Astilbe 'Milk and Honey'
Echinacea 'After Midnight'
Echinacea 'Green Envy'
Echinacea 'Coconut Lime'
Echniacea 'Sunrise'
Heuchera 'Midnight Rose'
Heuchera 'Tiramisu'
Hydrangea 'Shamrock'
Hydrangea 'White Dome'

Can't wait....

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

You ordered all of them, Christina? Rod is a good guy. Tell him you're a friend of mine and I recommended them. (They may charge you more - hee hee!)

New Hampshire, NH(Zone 5b)

hanging head in shame...yes I did order them all! You should know it's partly your fault too, Victor for all those pictures you post ;o). I think I've seen at least a couple of the above in your 'galleries', no? Did I miss any favorites I should go back for, LOL?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

No, that's a good 'start'!

New Hampshire, NH(Zone 5b)

you do know I'm only kidding about it being your fault, right?

I think I'm finally done for the year....except for maybe a few bulbs...but just a few...

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes - not to worry. I've been blamed by many!

New Hampshire, NH(Zone 5b)

I'm sure you have!

I was surprised to find all the echinacea listed as full sun/part-shade. I've always loved it, but thought it would only take full sun only so I never bought any. Hopefully it really does tolerate part-shade because I don't have any more full sun locations for it.

South Coast, RI(Zone 6b)

Thanks everyone, I've said several times I'm done for this season. Now I have to look at this site. I need a clem for the semi-shade and I see Roguchi on your list. Lord knows what else I'll find.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Not sure if they're carrying it, but Hagley Hybrid is very good for part shade.

New Hampshire, NH(Zone 5b)

Don't do it!!!!

(Can't say I didn't warn you)

New Hampshire, NH(Zone 5b)

Claire de Lune is also - prefers it actually. Don't know anything else about it besides that though....yet!
