Help with pear tree...

Bella Vista, AR(Zone 6b)

Does anyone have any fruiting pear trees? ( not ornamental, like Bradford) I would like some help with one. I don't know what type of pear it is (no ID yet from the ID forum), but the pears are looking very nice. The leaves started getting some black spots and I sprayed with fungicide. The leaves also have lighter green veins. In looking at some sites they say to pick the pears a week or two before they ripen. I wonder how you know? Knowing the type might help.

Any fruit, particularly pear, growers out there?

I don't know how to do a link but over on the Canning and Freezing forum, there's a thread titled "Pears." Several posts down there's one by darius dated July 13 discussing ripening of pears that has some good info that will help you on when to pick your pears.

Here is the thread Nature Lover cited.

Thanks,
I am not a subscribing member at this time. You gave me the idea to google pear canning and recipes however.

Thanks pennefeather. How do you do that link? Sorry JulieQ--didn't realize you aren't a subscriber. There are some good recipes on that thread. I used to make pear honey for my kids when they were small and they still love it! It's wonderful on hot bisquits.

NatureLover,

I opened up a new window for Daves so that this thread and that were open at the same time. You could use just one window, but I think it is faster with two. When you get to the correct thread you just copy the website address, and paste it where you need it - my directions below are assuming that your mouse has two buttons.

1. Right click on website address so that it is highlighted, mine shows up blue.
2. Click copy
3. Move your curser to where you would like to place the link, and right click
4. Click paste
5. Done

You can use this to copy anything anywhere.
