This tree (which I think is either a crabapple or apple) has leaves, but no fruit. The leaves are splotched as if the tree has a disease or an insect problem. Does anyone know what is wrong and what to do about it?
Thanks.
What is wrong with this tree?
It looks like a fungal leaf spot (not sure exactly which). The best control is usually achieved by following good cultural measures, and since it's not bearing fruit it would hardly merit spraying at this point. Fungal leaf diseases overwinter on the foliage, so raking out and removing all the leaves after they drop is the most important step. Also, avoid overhead watering or sprinklers which spray the leaves as this will add to the problem. Finally, make sure the tree has good air circulation (i.e. remove overcrowded growth; prune the tree if needed). I think if you follow these steps you'll have a much nicer, and perhaps fruitful, tree next year.
Thank you, Nifty413, for this info. I will remember to do this in the fall and hopefully, the tree will improve for next year.
