Hi Bea, that's a great blue on your MG!
Morning Glories 2008 #09

Joseph, love this one

Joseph - This one is so interesting! http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=5320335
I received seeds from Arlan that were also labeled "Dai". I am wondering if it is one and the same. I haven't grown any yet, but I hope to. (Maybe Arlan will post here and let us know.)
Emma - You have a nice MG set-up in your yard! I bet it looks awesome! :-)
Bea - Pretty bloom! Nice close-up shot! :-)

Becky,
Yes, your 'Dai" will be like the plant Joseph has pictured. If you look closely at Joseph's picture here http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/p.php?pid=5320335 , you can see a few very small blue/purple flecks. These plants can produce white flowers with more flecks, some with stripes, some with larger segments colored or completely colored. The reverse tube is always fun... - Arlan
Thanks, Arlan for confirming the Dai! And for pointing out the flecks. I didn't even see them originally! :-) Certainly makes one do a double take!!
Great blooms Joseph. Love the beautiful lvs on Dainagon.
Very pretty bloom Bea
Emma, beauties every last one of them!!! I really like this one http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=5316472
Joseph nice to see the 'Dai' that is a great flower to grow.
Becky my original 'dai' seed did come from Arlan too.
Loved all your blooms Joseph, Emma, Jackie. Gardenpom & Bea. They are awesome!!
How are all you Northeners doing with your MGs? Everyone got some planted and just waiting for blooms? I am now enjoying MG blooms vicariously through all of you! :-)
Looks like I will be here more than I was expecting. I got a lot more accomplished the past couple of days than I was expecting. I still have some painting to do, but that shouldn't take me too long to complete. I also am going to grow some I. purpureas and some I. nils in pots in my front yard and along the west & east sides of the front of my house. No rust in any of these places that I am aware of. But will be spraying the vines just in case.

Emma -
The japanese know fully well that the flower has supporting ribs and the 'nail' may represent a fingernail at the end of a digit or finger(tip)...the digit being the analagous structure to a rib...
I believe that preserving some of the japanese descriptions is respectful and makes sense...I also believe that if something doesn't translate into English in way that makes practical sense, then using English terms that make sense to English speaking people is preferable...

Arlan - Thanks for all of your excellent contributions...
Regarding
"as concentrating the flower pigment at the rays"
I would like to opine and attempt to clarify that the (RY) concentrates the pigment into rays at the folds (i.e., botanical term for the relevant part of the structure) and the rays sometimes appear at the primary folds, the secondary folds and sometimes at both the primary and secondary folds...
when the Ry and Rayflow overlap any sharp distinction may be equally blurred...
TTY,...
Ron
Nichole - The rest of your vines might be taking their sweet time blooming, but this one (Plum Shadows???) http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=5322221 is wonderful! Truly a winner in my book. I love the heart shaped leaves that this I. nil has, the varying blooms, and the colors! Would love some seeds if you collect enough. :-)
Becky - that pic is actually I. purpurea . . . Aomurasakizyouhantenshibori http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/114242/ . . . I'll save you some seeds, though, if you still want them! I have a pic to share with you, but will go to brug forum . . .
Those look great, Emma! I've got 3-4 vines growing from your Fujishibori seeds . . . looking forward to the blooms!
Thanks Nichole -
If this is the first time for you to grow the Fujishibori, you will love them
Emma
I love your Fujishibori, Emma! Such pretty blooms on all your vines!
Thank you Becky
Pretty blooms Nichole.
Emma you sure have lots of beauties!!

Wow that is Cool Emma! It is hard to tell what you used for those Trellises but it gave me a idea when I start running out of fence to just put chicken wire in a roll so to speak and let them climb up.
I have a lot of flats with Japan MG seedlings so they are almost ready for their new homes.
Oh Emma-- The blue Dawn is doing EXE !

I like this one...nice color

Thank you Helena and Ron -
Tricia . . .
Maybe you can tell better from this photo what my Trellises look like. They are made out of Stock Panels which is a heavy material. If you want more details on how they are made let me know. Very easy!
Also, they can be bent to any height. You can make a higher arch or lower than how these are.
This is only one side of the house. More are on the other side and lots are in the back.
Emma
All I can say is, I think I'm living in the wrong area of Texas!
Too funny Nichole -
Hey there is room in Jacksonville for more, come on down . . .
Emma
Come on up, you mean? Boy, I'd like that! Your part of the state gets more rain . . . seems to be green on the few occasions I've driven thru it . . . I tell you what . . . no matter where we move in January - whether it be within San Antonio, somewhere in Texas, or even Louisiana (to be near my sister), it WILL be in an area that has trees! (I miss trees - REAL trees!!)
Oh Yes!
We do have Trees. LOTS of Pine Trees too.
And pretty rolling hills.
A couple of the reasons that *Dave* chose to live in Jacksonville was because of the rainfall and the soil.
Heck - Jacksonville was once the Tomato capital of the World!
http://www.tomatocapital.com/postcards/tomatocapital.asp
Oh, and Patrick Dempsey lives here too *-*
Emma
Well, since my attempts at tomato growing have been pitiful at best (despite daily watering, etc - ask anyone at work!), maybe living in the once Tomato capital of the World wouldn't be the worst move we've ever made!
As for P.D. . . . never really got into Grey's Anatomy . . . betcha my DD wouldn't mind playing with the twins, though!
Yes, aren't PD's babies precious -
Emma
Beautiful blooms Emma and Nichole.
Time for a new thread

Thanks Jackie . . .
Emma
Yes- Emma~ You are in the right place of Texas!!! I mentioned to my husband that someday I want to move there. I said We'd Live by Dave and Emma LOL-- He looked at me crazy and said who are they? I said if you were a gardener you would know:)
My Last child is in High School so I am going to have to wait.
I barely remember driving through Jacksonville but I really wish we had plenty of rain but we don't and def. not rolling hills!
I was lucky enough to live years ago in my 20's in Glen Rose, Texas (by Fort Worth) and I wished I'd stayed there.
Anyway you are lucky to have zone 8a- my zone is 9a but acts as zone 9b since I live right by the water. We had no freezes last year in La Porte so I did not lose anything. Emma as you know we live right outside of Houston and no rain and high temps are the norm.
Syrumani- My other online garden friend~ I have been to San An.also but barely remember it since I was just a kid. I do remember the Alamo LOL
We do have lots of trees here but like you drought. I see that you are 8b. You prob. get a lot of the same humidity as I do-
Do you know the further North Texas you go the less humidity you get? One year I lived in Vernon Texas about 25 years ago and we did not use a central a/c but a money saving Swamp Box type of a/c~ Those were the good ole days:)
Tricia
Neat!
Then you can be in Cherokee County Master Gardener's Assn. with us *-*
